This is a ridiculous situation. It isn't possible for someone to wake up on another continent for no reason. For one thing, who would bother to kidnap a monk? Not even a monk, but a monk in training?

On the chance that this isn't an extraordinarily vivid dream, I'd like to ask for some explanation of what on earth is going on here. I would appreciate it. The only other apparent option would be to beat my head against the wall until the concussion knocks me out and I wake up at home again, but that doesn't appeal as much.

'Where' has been told to me, 'when' I picked up from the nearest newspaper, so 'what' is probably the best question to ask.

YOu have little choice, so you will have to learn. Still, you have my sympathies. There is honor in choosing not to fight, but this is an existential battle, philosophy is of little use to us if humanity dies entirely.

I assume you already know this city's name and the continent it's on. Unfortunately, to begin with, no one knows how we got here or what could be responsible for our arrival.

Prospero, United States of America. The country is familiar but the city isn't, although since I've never left Fuyuki, Japan, that probably doesn't mean much.

That's right. I'm Emiya's classmate - it seems that he's here also, so you may have met.

[Issei turns the camera around so that it shows the outside of a bookstore, whichever one Diarmuid works at (so go ask his player for the name).] It was relatively familiar. Bookstores don't vary all that much.

"What is going on" would be that people are, for lack of a better word, congregating here. There are all types from -- and yes, I know it sounds ridiculous -- different worlds and times here, with no rhyme or reason as to how they've been chosen. As stated before, the perpetrator and cause are unknown.

I follow. I'm not sure I quite believe it, but I have no better explanation for waking up here, so I'll assume that it's possible.

Yep. Keeping it simple: as far as I know, my story doesn't match with that of anyone else here. So either my memories are all messed up, or someone needs to draft some kind of a "Parallel Worlds Theory".

Hm, that's a problem... My best friend is here, so I'll trust what he says regardless of the weirdness, but I can't automatically discount everyone else.

The environment changes, and the streets are inhabited by creatures known as Shadows--so named presumably because that is exactly what it seems they're primarily made of.

Every night. This happens every single night, and becomes normal.

Anyone else that came to this city in the same way can easily confirm my words as fact.
