Has everyone received a card? I must say, I didn't expect such a rare gift. Did you know? I don't think a deck like this actually exists outside of the cards we have managed to collect among us!

[It's a bold statement, but after some time searching through the Internet and asking around on forums, she's fairly confident in her theory.

At any rate, she pulls out a deck of slightly similar cards, showing the card on the bottom of the stack (The Fool) before beginning to shuffle them.]

It's not the same deck at all, but I thought it might be fun to try my hand at some predictions. My dreams have been strange lately, so it must be some kind of a sign!

Ah... but not everyone is familiar with it here, are they? For those of you who don't know, tarot cards like these were originally used for card games, but more recently they've become popular for reading the future. It's one of the more well-known methods of divination.

[The shuffling stops.]

So, are any of you willing to give it a try? I'm no expert, so I'll just be doing a three card spread. It would be nice if it told us a little about the future to come, right?

The Three of Swords. A representative of the past, it represents removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion.

...For the present, the Three of Cups, reversed. It represents expedition, dispatch, achievement, end. It also signifies the side of excess in physical enjoyment, and the pleasures of the senses.

And for the future... the Wheel of Fortune, reversed. It represents increase, abundance, superfluity.

Ah, can I have a reading?

So... I'm honestly not sure what to make of all that. The past is clear enough, but the rest, less so.

Starting with your past, we have... the High Priestess, reversed. It represents passion, moral or physical ardour, conceit, surface knowledge.

For your present... the Seven of Wands. A card of valor, and can mean different things in different circumstances: intellectually, it signifies discussion, wordy strife; in business--negotiations, war of trade, barter, competition. It is a card of success, for the combatant is on the top and his enemies may be unable to reach him.

And your future... the Knight of Swords. It signifies skill, bravery, capacity, defence, address, enmity, wrath, war, destruction, opposition, resistance, ruin.

That... honestly sounds like a load of crap to me?

Um... I'm not sure what to make of all that? I'll have to think about it.

That's a bit ominous.

It is a little hard to make out, huh? I suppose expedition might refer to exploring this city as a whole, but...

I'll consider it at more length when I can look up other meanings of the cards. [He notes down the three cards on a piece of paper.]

I think that's how it's supposed to go. The cards help you think about things in a certain frame of mind and draw conclusions based on that.

Hopefully that will discredit the future prediction, too?

I guess you could call me conceited or passionate, but moral ardour is about the furthest thing from me. I'm not valorous, and I'm not winning except by being alive. The closest is the knight guy, and that's only if you think of the whole thing we're in as a war.

That might be a good idea. This is my first time trying tarot, so all I have is the guidebook that came with the deck.

I don't like the ending much. And I'm not really jealous.
