one † video

[ The camera turns on to show a tall man, wearing a dark blue long coat over his priest's clothes, a barely-seen cross necklace hanging around his neck, eyeing the screen with a calm, indifferent expression. He speaks with a deep, astringent voice, very noticeable so, but the tone he speaks in is very calm, even a little disinterested, the slightest, barely noticeable trace of a smile heard in it- this contributes to the heavy and tense atmosphere surrounding him, that one could feel even over the cellphone. There is something vaguely threatening and oppressive about him, and the general feel he gives off. Yet, he carries himself in a confident, calm, composed way, without showing the slightest trace of hostility or anger or any other negative emotion. The way he is looking at the screen, even when he's not looking directly at anyone, combined with the qualities of his voice, is able to make one feel tension-- as though one wrong word and wrong move will land you in deep trouble, as though he is looking down on you. For a guy who obviously just arrived, he's pretty chill about this whole thing. Probably because he more or less figured out a few things already by himself. Most of the things, in fact. How? By being Kirei. ]

What a convenient device this is. Given that cell phones these days, as advanced as they are, normally do not function as to communicate with a large group of people by default, then this device is specifically designed for the purpose of communication within that certain group. After all, none of the citizens that are native to this place seem to possess them, and not only that, but it seems that they have mistook me for a newcomer that has recently moved to this town. Hah. They do say ignorance is bliss, do they not? Perhaps it is. If they had known that unknown forces were suddenly transporting people to their perfectly typical and normal little town, living their daily lives normally would have been more difficult. I suppose there is no use explaining that this is not the case at all. Such people rarely listen, after all. They rather remain blind to whatever is going on under the surface and continue living their current lives, already filled with enough problems and troubles and trials.

Of course, this would also mean that my assumption is not incorrect and that I am indeed not alone in a group of others who have been inconveniently taken away from where they previously were. All the way from Japan to the United States, is it? But this is really quite annoying. [ He doesn't sound annoyed, though... at all... there's a trace of sarcasm in that statement, as though it is said ironically, in a tongue-in-cheek way. ] I am a busy man, after all. More than that, you would think they would allow me to complete certain duties I cannot leave unattended first. [ He smiles, suddenly, and while it's not a sneer or anything like that, it's... a bit unpleasant in a way that one can't really put their finger on. It really reinforces the threatening and tense air around him, though. It's like he's smirking mysteriously without actually smirking mysteriously. ] How terribly disappointed he will surely be. I will not be able to apologize either, as if I should ever return, and by the time I will, it will be far too late as well.

It seems self-introductions upon arriving are common courtesy here as well. Then allow me to do so. I am Kotomine Kirei, and I am the priest of Kotomine Church in Fuyuki City. [ And then there's that smile again. ] But there is no need to refer to me as Father Kotomine.

You talk a lot.

Oh, I recognize you. We do seem to have a great deal of people from Fuyuki.

[Lancer didn't hold grudges. It was something of a policy for him: life was too short to waste it on concentrating vitriol at others, and if someone's the type you get along with, you might as well do so regardless of their affiliation. For those who don't, just try to refrain from wasting time on them. It was a good policy, he thought, but one he admitted he had problems adhering to fully.]

[The point of the matter was that, as far as Lancer was concerned? Kotomine, despite the multiple grievances Lancer had with him, had paid his dues, his metaphorical pound of flesh, or more literally, with his heart.]

[All that said? The priest was still something utterly anathema to him, the complete opposite of the kind of person he'd get along well with. Possessing a temper as poor and as easy to trigger as Lancer's, the priest was also someone rather hard for him to ignore.]

[Long story short, Kirei gets a viewscreen full of scowling Irishman.]

Hey, what's this? I thought that such an open public statement was against your religion. Did you undergo some kind of conversion or something when I wasn't looking? Doesn't seem to be for the better at all though, what a damn shame.

French for "Malicious Priest".

Ignorance is only bliss when that which you've turned a blind eye to is of a trivial nature. Though perhaps to those simple humans, locked away in their coffins when the truly worthwhile things happen, arrivals from times and dimensions far removed from their own are of no consequence and would merely confuse their rigid conceptions of a fluid reality.

*He smirks, amusement dancing in his purple eyes and indicating that he would probably just find that outcome entertaining.*

But how the supposedly ordinary humans live their lives is of no consequence to me. I certainly hope, however, that you don't expect people to believe your pitiful facade of innocence, Mr. Prêtre Perfide.

[ what is Christianity.. aka crosses and 'Church' don't really.. make sense to him as much. So instead of that, David here is focusing on another part of the man's message instead. ]

You are right in your assumptions, you are not alone here. There are actually quite some people in this city who have been taken from their original homes, from what I have gathered so far. [ speaking with his usual calm pokerface, even with Kirei's.. special.. atmosphere.. ]

It also seems they do not particularly care about the duties or tasks we have left behind.

[Don't mind me, just being Kiritsugu's lookalike]

What could keep a man of the church busy?

[Sup, just being a Lancer in glasses here. And not looking too happy.]

'Kotomine Kirei'?

The important parts could have been put into one or two sentences.

[A PRIEST... (YAY) Even if something almost seems a bit, er, off, Ruler will act courteously as always.]

I see that you have figured much for yourself then. In that case, bonjour, Father Kotomine. Though you say there is no need to refer to you as that, would it be acceptable if I did so by choice?

[The atmosphere from the man is strange and...intimidating. It reminds him of Naoya, his teacher, yet its subtlety is on a different level.]

Seems like you got some of the basics, Mr. Kotomine. Though while they might will themselves to stay ignorant, they might also be influenced by others to ignorance.

Right. My father is the temple head, so we've met before.

[Sup, dude.]

Really, must we feign ignorance? [He didn't recall Kayneth mentioning the name, at least not in the context of 'this person was a Master'. But when Saber had detailed the events of the Fifth War to him and his successor in the Lancer class had told him of his Master, 'Kotomine Kirei' was not a name Diarmuid forgot.]

That name is actually of no small amount of significance to me, and not in a way you would find positive. Kotomine Kirei, false Master to a Lancer-class Servant in the Fifth Holy Grail War--do not think I am clueless just because I am ten years behind.

[He took off the glasses he was wearing, smirking as he did.]

Understand this. If you cause even the smallest shred of trouble for Saber or for the fifth Lancer, it will be me who deals with you, personally. I do not think you really want that.

[Kiritsugu does not even consider the possibility of responding, just as any other human typically does not consider killing himself. To him, they amount to the same thing.]

[Kiritsugu's concept of death works differently in Prospero. He no longer truly fears anything, seeing as he's able to acquire the methods of an individual the first time he's killed, and subsequently ensure victory in any further attempts.]

[But Kotomine's different. Kiritsugu does not believe in certainty against him. Not with a hundred attempts against his life. If there's one thing he fears in Prospero, above Servants and Shadows, it's the man in the comm.]

[Kiritsugu has long cancelled room service in his hotel room, but his name remains in the register, despite his best attempts at removing it. Perhaps it's a testament to the higher powers the hotel is undoubtedly influenced by, or perhaps it's simply the more rigorous standards of hotel security in the US put at work. In any case, the result is the same. If Kotomine so wished, he would not only find out about his archenemy's existence within Prospero, but also his location.]

[With the first tinges of fear he's felt since the Fourth War, Kiritsugu hopes this isn't the case.]

Well, welcome to the city of Prospero. I'd rather be home.
