Thus, when her phone drops from her hand (her ridiculous poofy outfit has no pockets) it shows her being backed into a corner by a Shadow. She's obviously terrified by the expression on her face.

Suddenly, the space in between her and the Shadow is filled - by a kid in a ridiculous scarf. Who is still taller than her, natch. He dispatches the Shadow with his spear, then turns to the startled Sanaki.]

[The Persona disappears. After staring for a moment, she looks at her phone again and turns it off.]

How do you defeat them if magic doesn't work?

It's the only thing that does work. Consider that no one can use magic without one of those Persona, and they all don't show up so quickly. Makes those Shadows quite the nuisance.
