[So much for doing a timely introduction. Date's been on the island for nearly a week, explored the streets, been on a dungeon outing, and has only now gotten around to really looking at the new piece of technology he's received. Though he's used it once or twice to check on messages and even called someone, it looks fairly beaten up from how it's been treated. Also, he's having a hell of a time figuring out how to work it. The man hasn't owned a cell phone in a long time and he he hates reading instructions.

Which is why it makes perfect sense that there's nearly a thirty seconds of recording where the camera is pointed up at the hotel ceiling. It finally finds its way back to him, a man who looks like he's in his late twenties. He flashes a smile at the camera.]

Looks like I've decided to stay here until I figure this all out. It seems like a waste of someone's effort if I'd turn and leave. ... besides that, I can't afford it right now. So! My first goal... [He holds up one finger.] ...is to discover what this place has to offer.

I've been here a week and haven't found much to entertain myself with. Some of you have been here for over a month, right? What have you been doing? ... and if I can't find anything to keep my interest, I guess I'm just going to have to keep trying to get through more floors on that place we went the other night. I'll start accepting applications from those of you who want a partner and don't feel you can do it alone.

[Subtle? Never. Date figures he has nothing to lose being perfectly honest. Also, it doesn't look like he's kidding about the application part.]

[ A large, square-jawed man pops onto the received video and comments. ] Well, there are certainly jobs available... this town seems intent on integrating us into the population one way or another, and nobody really asks too many questions.

[Oh it's this guy again.]

I don't need to be working, but I'm not opposed to it. What sort of stuff have you been doing?

I wait tables.

[ He says this with no shame or pride. It's just a fact. ]

Not the kind of profession I would have pegged you for. Maybe a bartender.

[Date sighs, looking slightly at a loss.]

It'd be nice if this place could get to the point already. I'll look into jobs, but it still seems like a waste of my skills.

It passes the time, and keeps us from attracting undue suspicion.

[ Garviel laughs for a moment. ] I do not care overmuch for alcohol, honestly. I had a good friend once who was a drunk. A poet of some reknown.

I've been working and studying here.

It's safest to go in a group.

That's what's wrong with the young people these days. So used to this world's ways of technology they can't amuse themselves anymore.

[You're getting an amused look from him.]

Ah ah, it's not that at all. Technology isn't my thing. I'm just wondering where my best interests lie while I wait for this place to tell me why I'm here.

[She smiles wryly.]

We've got something in common then, good sir. I'm afraid I cannot help you much with your quest; I'm a bit too green here for that.

I haven't been here too long myself. Just a few days and I'm already pretty bothered by the lack of information. Even the guys who have been here for a month or so don't seem to know any more than I do.

So, you got dropped off here just like the rest of us... What's your story?

Oh, I'm just your average biology teacher at a school for meta humans. Nothing any more interesting than the others here, I wager.

... meta humans? Not sure I've heard that term before.

Some people would say mutants, but I find that term rather rude. Have you got comics in your world? My students assure me that we're all rather like superheros without the fancy capes or the heroing.
