I had a very enjoyable dinner with you, Ruler, last night - father, Asuka, you should have been in attendance, really - and I thank you again.

On a much more general note. What are your favorite subjects in school and why? I am required to do a study for... fourth grade.

I should really skip a grade or three.

Mine's still physics, by the way, because it's the basis of all science. Well, the ones about actual reality, anyway.

Biology is reality. Why not the science about life?

Biology is merely the interactions of chemicals, which are in turn the connections between atoms and molecules. Physics is the foundation of the other physical sciences, is what I mean.

...I still like biology better. It's more practical.

It's a limited subject, though. I mean, it's fine, but something that's just about mucking around with sticky things is really your favorite?

You prefer numbers about how fast a ball will roll.

Or numbers about how soon and where a charged particle stream will hit an enemy monster.

What else did you do in Latin?

Read, write... It was a language thing, so there wasn't much that the nuns could do, really.

I've always been more interested in what was written in the old tongue than how to write specific words in it.

["Father"? That... brought a particularly complex series of emotions and memories to the table. Especially complex considering who exactly it was that experienced them.

Lancer wasn't simple-minded, he merely was quick to make decisions and follow up on them. That was, in fact, probably his biggest failing during life as a human being. While it had helped to elevate him to the status of "hero", it had also cost him dearly and branded him a sinner, guilty of filicide and (as far as he was concerned) fratricide.

He held no regrets about his life, just a disappointment here or there. If asked precisely what about his way of life had disappointed him, those events would have taken center stage.

So why, now, of all times, was he feeling that warm, fuzzy emotion of paternal affection?

With the mental equivalent of a shrug, he decided against dwelling on it and merely going with the flow once more. He offered not!daughter a lopsided grin as he replied.]
