They are something akin to that. Some saints received prophetic visions from God, [herself included whoops] but not all. Saints are more akin to those who lived for their religion and were beatified by the church for it.

Would you happen to know if their birthdays were ever recorded? Saints are rather important people after all, so I was a bit curious...

Hmmm. Saints were generally not very important at the time of their births, and at a point in history when births aren't well-recorded, that information can get lost.
