The Shadows. They're different, stronger, every time. Especially the giant ones that cause these events like the love thing and the family thing. Our mysterious captors have some relation to them, as well.

The 'something worse'? I'm too used to being able to protect people, and while the means I had to do that are unavailable to me here, I can get stronger to re-assume that role.
