It appears to be a fine weapon indeed. In particular, the detailing on the haft looks as though it would make it easier to maintain a firm hold.

[Edgeworth nudges at Pess to look over to and approach Diarmuid. She seems a bit confused, but does sniff in the Servant's direction.]

Pess, this is Diarmuid. Diarmuid, this is Pess. I've owned her for only a year and a half, but she's been a remarkable comfort in that time.

Its name is Gáe Dearg, the Crimson Rose of Exorcism. It was a gift from my father, though its ability to cancel out magic seems to be gone at the moment.

Just as limited as those of us brought here, clearly. I had hoped otherwise, but I think we'll manage all the same.

As well as any such items that were on one's person at the time of our kidnapping. Wright possessed an... unusual item whose loss of power was apparent with even a casual glance. I hadn't even known it wasn't naturally phosphorescent until that night.

All I had with me when I d--got here was my armor and this lance. I can't say I'm surprised the latter of the two didn't come with me, that would have complicated matters somewhat.

I'd imagine it to be highly uncomfortable as well even if you were otherwise healthy.

What do you suppose any doctors asked to aid in its removal would have made of it?

[Edgeworth may not actually be laughing audibly, but it's apparent enough in his eyes, and he is grinning.]

I'd probably have to make up a story about how it got there. I wonder if 'I tripped' would be a valid excuse.

[In contrast to his usual serious look when shouting that, he's continuing to smirk.]

No matter how one were stabbed, evidence of it passing through flesh would be apparent! Clearly something far more atypical than a mere accident occurred.

[And that laughter is contagious enough that even Edgeworth is chuckling in his throat. Diarmuid is now the fourth person ever to have heard such a thing at least once in their lifetimes.]

At any rate, it's an immeasurable relief to have it again. With any luck I may yet see my second lance again, or perhaps one of my swords.

[Edgeworth's chuckling finally dies down, though Pess has been barking excitedly since it began and is continuing to do so.]

I rather doubt that it's luck. This is more likely a matter of cause and effect.

Perhaps. I can't say I ever had much good fortune to begin with.

Nor I. That being said, my thoughts are based on something more substantive than that. Many of us no longer trust the network with sensitive information due to the suspicious voice posts that occasionally occur and their rather villainous tone. More recently, those who are technically inclined made an encrypted post of some sort, which makes our distrust more blatantly obvious. I suspect that this offering of gifts by request through the phone is intended to regain our trust.

Sound logic, as usual. I can't say it will work to that effect, but we could still use it to our advantage.

Indeed. I don't have anything as useful in our predicament as a weapon that could be brought from home, but I can think of other things that would be of use to me regardless.

I'm sure everyone has a fair amount of things like that. Personally, I'd be quite happy to see both lances or both swords again.

What I most want, I cannot merely wish for -- only pursue as best I'm able. I can only hope that no more of the pillars supporting the path forward collapse before others can be erected.

Never before have I faced a situation as dire as this, Diarmuid -- and having left the folly of my youth behind, I realize that I'm dwarfed by the scope of our problems as a community. I'm... not a hero... nor a king, nor even a politician -- I'm only a lawyer caught in a lawless situation.
