02 Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ [Action]

[Those roaming the streets during tonight's Dark Hour may see what looks at first glance like just another shadow in the darkness slipping along walls and around corners. It's no shadow, though, nor a Shadow - it's a small young girl, and a very frightened one at that, judging by her harsh, quick breathing and occasional tiny whimper when something startles her.

She presses onward, though, towards her goal. And it's on the return trip, after finding the shadow that contained her gift and now clutching a bound book with covers as red as her kimono, that she's cornered. Three Shadows, moving towards her painfully slowly, as if taking delight in her terror as she drops to the ground, crying and pushing herself up against the wall behind her. Ghosts, just like at home, and she's trapped again, just like then-!

Finally, when they're closing in and she's hiding her face, she opens her mouth to cry out for her brother - but what comes out instead is a word she's only heard a few times. Persona.

When she dares look up, it's not to the face of death, but to a lithe, dog-like creature looking at her with unmistakeable concern on its narrow face, ears perked. It even wags its tail a little, as if to say "are you okay now?" - almost enough to make her laugh a little, and she hesitantly reaches up to stroke its head.]

Is that your persona? [Coming out from the shadows is... this guy. With his hands in his pockets and a slight smile on his expression. It's dangerous for a little girl to be out here, but it seems like she got her persona unlocked.]

[she jumps a little, but looks up at him with a small smile, still stroking the dog-spirit's head]

I guess so. I didn't see, but he must have gotten rid of those ghosts that were going to kill me. That's what they do, right?

They are there to protect you, yes. [Though, he's a bit surprised... What was she doing out here?] Are you alright?

I think so, yeah. [nods] None of them touched me. I was scared, but Inugami made it okay.

[she doesn't actually realize she's said the name, either >>]

Ah. So you already know the name of your persona?

[blinks] ... I do? [she thinks about it a second, remembering what she said] I... yeah, I guess so. He's Inugami... right, puppy? [the last is addressed to her Persona, who perks up his ears and bumps her shoulder with his nose. As affirmative an answer as a non-verbal creature can probably give]

[Don't mind this goddess appearing behind Neah, Chitose! Nyx is also curious about the puppy that is called "Inugami".]

He is cute.

[she jumps a little at Nyx's sudden appearance, then looks back at Neah] Is that your Persona? She's really pretty...

[Welp. Nyx has taken a liking to this puppy. This odd looking puppy, anyway. Neah on the other hand merely smiles and nods.]

Correct. She seems to like yours. ... How nice.

[Inugami just wags his tail. He's a pretty friendly guy, apparently! As long as Chitose likes you, anyway. >>]

Mr. Neah, will he always stay with me? I... I'm lonely.

[He watched the little girl with a... surprised expression. Remaining quiet until he could figure out what to say to her.]

He is yours now. [Sighing, he walked over to her to gently ruffle her hair.] You will be alright.

[nods. The contact is soothing, it's the first human touch she's felt in a little while] Itsuki went away, so... I've been alone. It's okay if Inugami stays, though.

Itsuki is no longer here? Really?

Really... he's been gone away for a while now. [her voice is soft and sad and she doesn't look up as she talks. It's obviously something she's pretty broken up about, understandably so.]

[He's not... great, to say the least, when children cry in front of him. But he does lean over to put a hand on her head to ruffle her hair.]

Do you need some company?

[Neville had seen enough of the scene to be rushing over to the young girl.]

That was close. Are you alright?

[Chitose jumps a little, then looks up at Neville, smiling a bit as she recognizes him]

I think so, yeah... they didn't touch me.

[the dog-creature looks up at him too, staying close to Chitose, but certainly looking more curious than unfriendly]

That's good. [He smiles over at the dog.] It looks like you found your Persona.

Yeah, I guess so. [still absently stroking the creature's head] Do you have one, too?

Um, yeah. [He looks uncomfortable. He still hasn't figure out how to make his Persona wear more clothes.]

[Poor Neville >> that expression makes her frown a little and tilt her head] Don't you like yours?

It's not so much I don't like her, it's just she's not really appropriate to be shown.

I see...

[she doesn't, really, but that's okay!] Do you, ah... know much about Personas? I really don't know anything at all... just that we all have one to protect us.

Not much more than that, sorry. John tried to explain it, but it just seems like some kind of magic to me.

Yeah... that's what it seems like to me, too. I thought they were ghosts at first. [that's the only kind of supernatural thing she knows about >>]

You can touch them. That's a lot different from the ghosts I know.

You can't touch ghosts in your world? [she looks quite surprised, and curious] In mine, you can... well, they can touch you, I guess. I think they killed me.

[so casual about it, Chitose.]

[Nate can hear the commotion from one of the alleys, and he's running over, turning the corner to find a familiar face and what looks like.. a Persona.]

Chitose? Hey! Was that you?

[she looks up, startled, then smiles faintly to see who it is, still petting the dog-like creature's head]

Hi, Mr. Nate. It was... I got attacked by some ghosts. [her voice trembles a little as she says it. Ghosts are so scary, man :<]

[Nate's keeping his gun out of sight when he gets close, since he doesn't wanna startle her. Looking at the dog creature, he gets closer, squats down to get to her level.]

Are you okay? [He's pretty worried about that, takes a look around to make sure there aren't anymore.] That your persona?

I'm okay, yeah. [looks at the creature, who's looking back at her with warm eyes] I guess he is. He appeared when I called for him, just like Itsuki said.

[A little relief at the answer before he nods, looks back to the summoned creature.]

Yeah, he came to protect you. [There's a hint of a smile as he settles his hands on his hips, exhales.] Good think he did, what's his name?

I... I don't know. [looks over at him, frowning a little] How would I find out?

Try talking to him - you never know. [His brows furrow - he offers a smile.]

[it's a good suggestion, and she turns back to the creature, reaching up to frame its narrow face in her small hands] Do you have a name, puppy?

[The Persona's mouth lolls open in a doggie grin, and Chitose blinks, startled]

He says his name is Inugami. I... could hear him talk inside my head.

[Watching the scene, Nate takes a quick scan around the area to make sure that there aren't any surprises around. When Chitose speaks again, Nte's face softens a little, he nods.]

Sounds... like what they're supposed to do, yeah. Looks like you've got a partner for life.

[that makes Chitose smile brightly, and she leans against Inugami, closing her eyes]

You think so? He'll stay with me always?

[Another nod, his smile a little bigger this time.]

Well, he came for you just now, didn't he? I'd say that's more than enough to say he'll stick around.

I'm glad...

[she bows her head, looking very sombre suddenly and speaking in a small, sad voice] Itsuki didn't.

[He hears the last part, catches the change and steps closer to her.]

- I'm sorry, Chitose.

[she doesn't look up, fidgeting with the edge of her kimono] He was away for a long time, and then... I looked through my phone, and he wasn't there anymore. That means he went away, right?

- yeah. Probably, if it's been awhile.

Went home, that's my guess.

[Chitose's silent for a little while, then sighs and nods]

I hope he's okay. I hope he... went someplace better than home instead.

[You want a hug? He's holding out his arms to offer one, because he's not sure how this goes.]

I can hope with you, for what it's worth.

[oh Nate you have no idea how much she needs that hug ;; she looks up at him for a minute, lower lip trembling, then lets go of her Persona to pretty much fling herself at him. Girl has a decent grip, too. And, um, sorry about your shirt, it's getting cried on. :|]

[He almost stumbles back for a second but he gets his balance again, has his arms around her in a hug. He doesn't mind the tears, because he really doesn't know how do comfort.]

You're not alone, it'll be okay.
