Anyway, you're in a weird world that looks kinda like 21st century Earth but not really, there's a special hour of the day filled with blob monsters that only us people who were brought here from other possible realities can experience, if you had any superpowers, they're gone and replaced with a really dumb interpretation of Analytical Psychiatry.

I asked the same thing about the sea level being hundreds of meters too low, and have never gotten an acceptable answer. I think this is some kind of possible reality where nothing interesting ever happened.

Well, it sounds like your world built a functional orbital ring and/or the moon exploded, and in my world and a couple of others, the apocalypse pretty much happened. Not really sure what compares to that as being "interesting".

And considering this is an island and nobody's freaking out over Black Rivers... Huh.

So what's your story? I've only met one other person here who knows anything about piloting and he was some kind of nudist Brit.

I'm an engineer with the Trinity Gift Project, which you probably don't have where you come from, so let's just go with the basics here.

-Couple years ago, these things come up out of the water and start rampaging. We call them Black Rivers.
-Army trashes the first wave, but they just keep coming. Islands and coast cities are a lot less populated these days. Everyone's moving inland or up into the ring to get away from them. Hence the comment.
-Boss-man, that's Logan Yasakani, and Boss-lady, that's Hope Yasakani, go start up the Trinity Gift Project to go fight them off. They find something called a Core Gem -- those showed up on the day the Black Rivers did -- and get their researchers to build something that'll use it to fight them off.
-They did. It's called Mirror First. Princess pilots the thing -- oh, that's Saph Yasakani. Their kid, obviously.
-This is about when I signed on. I build this stuff. Helped design Mirror Second and Third when we picked up Core Gems and pilots to bond with them. Which means we've got four left to go, and we know where at least two are.
-Which brings me to duct-taping Eyes to the wall.

Wow, change some of the proper nouns around and blow up Antarctica near the beginning and this would be creepily familiar.

Except I'm one of the pilots and not one of the techs, of course~.

If I thought I'd remember this conversation next time I saw Shinji or Wondergirl, it would be.

What'd they do? I just did it because Eyes trashed Mirror Third and I had to take the time to fix it instead of working on important stuff.

Shinji got himself and his robot eaten by a monster because he was an idiot. Wondergirl's just irritating by nature.

Fun. If they do it again I'm putting iced tea mix in the showerhead just to watch Princess flip out about rusty water.

Sadly, that's the one thing that wouldn't freak out anyone at NERV. The shock absorber/brainwave conductor stuff we put in our cockpits is about that color.

That just sounds nasty, not gonna lie. You breathe that?

I'm not going to pretend it isn't annoying, but yeah, it's oxygenated too. We just have to get used to it.

Like I said, nasty. Must be a useful setup, though.

Having to take 30 minute showers after every time I get in the cockpit is better than getting banged up on the side walls, yeah.

It doesn't look like it's a problem here in nowhere-land, anyway.

Even if I had my Eva, I wouldn't have anything to fight with it, really.
