[One moment she was wearing a (admittedly silly) pair of cat ears while shooting a tranquilizer at a Blade Child. The next, she was somewhere else completely.

Hiyono can't help but be surprised. The switch seemed almost instantaneous; the school setting changed to a cityscape, and one with a strange green sky to boot. It was all so impossible, she seriously wondered if she hadn't fallen asleep on her feet and started dreaming.

Still, she keeps her guard up, gripping the tranquilizer gun in her hands like it was her last lifeline. And in her condition, it really could be. She is only too aware of how weak her body is, having lost so much blood so recently. The wound may have been treated, but she would need a blood transfusion if she wanted to recover anytime soon. Even now, she couldn't help but lean heavily against a nearby wall for support, her legs wobbling beneath her.

It's as she is slowly making her way forward when she first sees it. A shadowy blob, approaching her menacingly. Her mind racing, she gives a short scream as she points her gun at it.]

YEEEEK!

[The airgun is fired, producing a relatively slight sound. Although the shadow takes the hit, it continues sluggishly towards her. It doesn't take a genius to realize she probably can't take this thing down on her own- whatever it is.]

H-help! Someone, help!

We call it the dungeon. Can't miss it, really.

Could you give me its general location? I don't want to accidentally get too close to it if possible.

Well, it's the opposite way from where we're going. There we are. *She tugs open a door and leads her into -- okay, a 24-hour convenience store isn't the best of places, but at least they'll be safe from the Shadows in there until they figure out what to do.*

Hmm...

[She looks in that direction, making a note of the convenience store as a landmark before walking in. After giving a sigh of relief, she gets right down to business.]

I've noticed none of the buildings seem to have power. Is that just another effect of this time?

Yeah, no electricity. Electronics all short out. Which is why I have to drag myself around town. *sigh* And like I said, don't use the water until it's over.

I'll have to remember that. What about the coffins?

[She's... got a fair idea, after seeing their positions, but it never hurts to get confirmation.]

Don't worry, they're not dead.

Another part of the Dark Hour's effects?

Yeah. Those are civilians.

So they just spend a whole hour in a coffin, and are none the wiser when it ends?

...This hour is very thorough in making sure it leaves little trace.

Pretty much. *She sits down, leaning against the door.* Don't mind me. Going out at this time of night was not my smartest idea. In case you couldn't tell, I can barely move.

[Hiyono takes a seat as well, folding her legs neatly as she prepares to wait it out.]

You mentioned it was because electronics don't work?

Yeah. Do you guys not have mechanical body parts where you come from?

We have prosthetics, but none that are advanced enough to move.

I have a reinforced skeleton. Apparently not a big enough deal for whoever's in charge to zap me to normal and back when the Dark Hour starts and ends, like a couple people here, but it does kinda suck when I have to try and walk.

That's amazing, but... What do you mean by "back to normal"?

You'll see. So tell me what your home was like.

[She glances about.]

It wasn't much different from this. If the sky were blue and there weren't any monsters or coffins, this could be a neighborhood in my city.

[Her gaze settles on a product.]

...Well, maybe if the writing were in Japanese, too.

It's nicer in the day. More normal.

Then outside of this hour, it may turn out to be a lot like my home after all.

Would you mind explaining a little more about this place? Where is it, exactly?

Prospero, the island off the coast of the continental US that, to just about everybody who comes here, never existed in their worlds. Seems pretty normal, except for this.

[Different worlds, huh...?

...Well, after those monsters, Hiyono's a bit more willing to believe this sort of thing. Monsters - at least, the ones that looked like those Shadows - were not the type of creature one would ever see in her world, much less at night under a green sky when everyone else appears to be locked in coffins.]

That would explain your skeleton, I suppose.

So if I have this right, people from different worlds are randomly finding themselves here? Do we know why? And for that matter, what decides whether or not we will be able to experience this hour instead of being inside of those coffins?

The coffins are the natives. People originally from here.

So only the people who were dragged here are able to move freely during this time... Interesting.

Is there anything that sets us apart from the natives, aside from being from different worlds?
