[Rider wasn't one to angst and cry over losses like some people. Oh, no. That wasn't her style.]
Prospero, I'm not a woman who likes to screw around and repeat herself. So I'll ask this once. Just once, and if I don't get a satisfactory answer I might just start wrecking shit.
Where.
Is.
Nathan.
Drake.
[Her coping mechanism was anger and threats.]
[Some time after that call, Rider could be found on the deck of her still rather banged-up ship in the harbor--slumped in a chair over a small table she set up when it wasn't sailing. Usually she enjoyed blasting terrible music from a radio set upon it, but today the only thing on it was an alarming number of empty glass bottles.]
...fuckin' city.
[Anger, threats of violence, and alcohol were perfectly good coping mechanisms in her book, thank you very much.]

[He took a sip of tea.]
Pot, kettle, black, Drake. Perhaps you should stop deluding yourself into thinking that drowning your troubles will do anything other than leave you with a bad hangover.
[action]
[action]
[He remembers the last time he cried, to the day, hour, and minute. He has not shed tears in over a decade since.]
I suppose. [For some reason, the tea feels thick in his throat.] But there is no shame in grief, Drake.
[action]
[action]
If not... then what reason do you have to be ashamed of mourning the loss of someone you cared for?
[action]
I'm not mourning. I'm pissed off with myself because I'm actually a massive fuckup.
[action]
[You can be pissed and grieving, Rider. The two aren't mutually exclusive.]
I'm afraid you'll have to elaborate. Why would you call yourself a fuckup?
[action]
[She drained the rest of her tea, speaking far more openly than she did with anyone else--well, except maybe Shakespeare.]
Thing is, he admired 'Francis Drake'. And that's me, but...also kind of not me. [She opened yet another bottle as she spoke, not really caring who knew the Big Secret at this point.]
I wanted to tell him. Stupid kid deserved to know just what he was admiring--history books gloss over all the ugly bits and skip some other parts entirely. I don't make any secret of the fact that I'm a lying, stealing murderer.
What I do make a secret of is that I'm only 'Francis Drake' from a certain perspective.
[action]
[He'd always thought that Francis Drake was supposed to be male. But there was something about a red-haired woman with a scar on her face that struck him as familiar-- something that he should be making the connection to, but wasn't.]
[Hadn't there been a rumor about the queen...]
[The question was plain as day on his face, but even he thought it was too fantastic to ask.]
[action]
[Queen Elizabeth is kickin' back in a chair with her jacket half-open and chugging a bottle of rum.]
[What now?]
[action]
[Sip. His brain was processing this information.]
That makes you the second royal that I've seen without enough clothes on.
[action]
Point is, I never got the chance to tell the stupid kid just who it was he was admiring.
[action]

[action]
[action]
Of course, I would know nothing about having someone disappear before you could tell them something important.
[action]
Oh, shut up.
[action]

[action] 1/2
[Give it a second, she's not nearly sober enough to be witty.]
[action]
[action]
And yet you won't. Calm your righteous indignation, Drake.
