[Things are very strange around Prospero, stranger than usual. People like the Katsaros sisters are new to the city, yet they and everyone around them act as though they've been around forever.]
[And starting in the Dark Hour on the eighth of August? Even Caliban has moved; it now emerges from the very center of town, in the location where Prospero City Hall stands during all other hours. There is no indication as to how such changes are happening, or even how.]
[This time, there are no dreams of the Velvet Room and no cryptic but well-meaning Elizabeth or Igor. With such drastic changes going on and after everything at the weapons shop, some people may well have been led to investigate the police station after Eileen's indications that her sister works there.]
[Said sister can be found behind the front desk of the station, head resting on one hand as the other flips through a book with a bored expression. Apparently it was a slow day for her.]
[Despite her being at the front desk, Darcy may not be the first one you approach. There are two others around the entrance; a serious-looking officer in full uniform and a somewhat disheveled plainclothes detective.]
[Go ahead and approach any of them--their objective is to protect and serve, right?]
[ooc:Give me two minutes to set up individual threads to keep this organized, then have at it. HAVE AT YOU.]

[Whenever someone approaches, Darcy straightens up and closes the book in front of her, green eyes focusing sharply.]
Can I help you?
no subject
Um, yeah... Ah, I was wondering if I could ask you some questions?
no subject
Of course.

Uh...sorry, I don't think anyone by that name works here.

Then who's in charge of the police department?

Well, thanks anyway.

Something I can do for you?

[She puts her hands together, drawing them to her chest.]
...It's important to me for sentimental reasons. Do you think you could help me find it, sir?

Thank you so much! I was in the shopping district when I lost it.

[Which she does, beginning to lead the way on over to the exact bit of street.]
no subject
What were you doing when you realized you lost it?
no subject
Erk... [This is the guilty expression of someone who has been caught doing what they shouldn't have. Darn you, dieting!] ...I was actually eating some buttered corn. I wanted to check to make sure the ring wasn't dirty when I realized it wasn't even there at all.

Busy day, sir?
[In the corner of his eyes, Izaya's eying the folders suspiciously. As an informant, he have his pride to find out what's this all about.]
no subject
[They don't seem all that incriminating--just normal, unassuming folders.]
[Not that Izaya can see it yet, but inside the topmost file was a report on a string of small robberies. It sounds like there's a pickpocket around that nobody can pin down or catch just yet.]
It could be worse.
no subject
[Oh well, he'll play this slow then.]
Agreed. Places like this tend to shove us an extravagant surprise.

I would like to object to that, but I suppose I shouldn't. [A small pause.] Also, I suggest you keep your eyes open, sir. Watching things absentmindedly is rather unbecoming, especially for someone like us.
[Of course he would use 'us' for the sake of word games.]
no subject
[He blinked at that once or twice, frowning slightly.]
What do you mean, 'like us'?
no subject
Oh, think nothing about it. Just mumbling to myself! [His grin is still on his face. They're both an 'observer', yet Izaya's kind of observing is very different from the man. And that intrigues him.] Please go back to what you have been doing.

Do you mind if I disturb you a bit for asking your name?

[Beat.]
Hah, sorry. I always wanted to introduce myself like that. Anyway, I'm a detective.

Izaya Orihara, an informant in the making. [Civil? What civil?] Pleasure's all mine.

[the fuck even are you, Izaya]
We could probably use someone like you around here once in a while.
