As for Shadows, try staying up past midnight once in a while. That's where all the action is if you like to fight, and I think fighting's what we need to do to get out of here. You're gonna need your own money and weapons, though. I wound up here with nothing but the clothes on my back. Heck, my Eva and my employer don't even seem to exist in this world.
