Unit 1 - Video

[The video clicks on, showing a black haired man with a very mild look of bewilderment on his face. Not as much as one might expect from a total newbie, but by this point he's a tad used to waking up in strange places. Thanks Dad. Though really, this doesn't look like what he expected the afterlife to be. He really doesn't feel dead though so he's guessing he's alive.]

Oh so that button is the same...[Oh. Right. Broadcasting. He clears his throat]

I suppose I should go out on a limb and assume that this was not where I was supposed to end up. For one thing, I've been to most of the planets that like to emulate Lost Jerusalem and this does not look at all familiar. Would someone be kind enough to tell me what is going on here? Or at least where this place is? I have to admit I am a little lost.

Ah, hello. [Well if it isn't Shion's more pleasant shadow. Well, Allen usually knows what's going on so this will be nice.]

I see. How did you find yourself here?

*He would be so crestfallen if he knew Gaignun just thought of him as Shion's shadow. He's a person too!*

I just showed up here, a few weeks ago. One minute I was on the Elsa, then I was here.

You should be able to get a free hotel room, though. Trust me, you do not want to be caught out after midnight, especially not unarmed.

[Well he would if they had ever really had a chance to talk. Besides, he respects you for your intelligence and general good demeanor.]

On the Elsa? I see. Well, thankfully I'm right near the hotel so I may take you up on that suggestion.

Do you know if this place is connected at all to what we're used to?

*Well, that's something. He sighs and shakes his head.*

There isn't even interplanetary travel. As far as I can tell, it's just like Lost Jerusalem four thousand years ago, except between midnight and one. I can't even get my Ethers to work here.

Your ether's don't...[Well done Allen, you've managed to make Gaignun speechless. He's also trying out some of his own abilities.]

N-no...[Shit. this also means he has no access to his monetary resources here. He's going to have to start from scratch]

Yeah. There's a place that sells weapons here, though they're all more the sorts of things Jr. would use than anything advanced. Still, I can show you where it is. Even if you stay inside at night, it's...not always safe during the day, either.

I would be very grateful if you would. [Regaining his composure. Hell yes.]

I'm fine with antiques like that, our guns really aren't that different if they use projectiles.

I haven't used any of the guns, but aiming the crossbows is more or less the same as what I'm used to, so yeah, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ah, you might want to look for a job here, too. The hotel provides free food, but everywhere else charges and they don't use our currency.

[An eyebrow goes up. Ethers, he'd expected that, but Allen Ridgeley using actual weaponry? Colour him surprised.]

Well, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I may have had a head start on that back in our universe, but I know the basics.

*Hey, he regularly travels through space. You think he's not going to learn how to handle himself if a Gnosis attacks?*

Well, I think that's about it for the mundane stuff.

Monsters show up at midnight, though they're not Gnosis. I think they're called Shadows. Also, I don't know if it's a regular thing or not yet, but earlier this month, the town was filled with zombies of all things.

[Siiiigh] This is sounding better and better. I have to admit it will be nice to have a break from Gnosis.

Well, yeah, there's definitely that. The technology level is a little painful and only a few of us are here, but it is nice to usually know when the monsters are going to start showing up.

Though, with what happened before I got stuck here, I'm not entirely sure the Gnosis were a problem anymore...

Allen? What happened? [Now that's a loaded phrase there. You can't just leave him hanging.]

...A lot. After you...you know, we went to Michtam on a tip from Albedo. Some of the stuff that happened there, I don't really want to talk about, but we ended up finding out that the Testaments answered to Wilhelm. He was using them to set things up to restart time, somehow.

We ended up stopping him, but the Gnosis went even more berserk than normal and started swarming the place. KOS-MOS and chaos...they stayed behind to transfer them all to the "land of beginning" to protect the rest of the universe, and Jin stayed behind to protect them. None of them came back.

After that, the UMN just vanished without a trace. Shion, Jr., Mary, Shelley and I went with the crew of the Elsa to try to find Lost Jerusalem, while the others stayed behind to work on a new network. And that's about it.

*Everything that's important to the matter at hand, anyway.*

[That...ok, he was not expecting that. Hang on a minute while that sinks in.]

Wilhelm? The Vector CEO? Strangely I am not surprised he was involved... [The other stuff, not going to comment on.] Thank you for telling me Allen.

Of course. You deserve to know, after everything you've put up with to help.

I'm sorry I couldn't do more. You sound like you came out of it well.

More or less. It was a pretty rough experience for all of us, but everyone who made it back recovered.

I'm glad to hear it. I was worried about everyone. [He is a little sad about chaos biting it, he was saved by him after all.]

Hows the Elsa holding up with out the Durandal?

Pretty well, though I feel pretty bad for Shion, getting stuck with cooking most of the time. But between the two of us, Hammer and Scott, we'll probably be able to take care of any general maintenance that needs done.

I've had the cooking on that ship. It's a blessing she's willing to do it at all. [Have a small, amused look Allen.]

So the UMN is gone...I wonder what things people will discover to compensate.

Believe me, we're all grateful. I've seen what Matthews comes up with when he has to make his own food and my appetite took a nosedive.

*He looks more serious as he contemplates the part about the UMN, though.*

I really don't know. MOMO's probably doing her best, but even after the Gnosis Phenomina, there's still a lot of planets that have suddenly been cut off from each other.

[If you look closely Allen, you'll see Gaignun wrinkling his nose at the thought of Matthew's cooking.]

Poor MOMO. I wouldn't worry too much about her though, she's remarkably resourceful. As for the planets, I don't doubt that some of the ones on the furthest regions may pass from memory until they are reconnected somehow.

*Allen always pays close attention to people's expressions and he gives a small, sympathetic smile at that nose wrinkle.*

It's kind of sad to think about, but you're probably right. Still, between her and Scientia, they've got the best chance out of anybody of working something out.
