[ When the video feed clicks on, there's actually some more silence for a few moments as the man frowns slightly - as if in concentration - at the device. But then when he notices it's working now, that he figured it out, his expression eases up a little to form a more neutral face. This person doesn't seem panicked about the situation in the slightest, even if he might be curious. ]

I assume this device is working now. [ Thankfully the grail's influence and all that helps slightly with figuring out this sort of things. He takes a deep breath, as if preparing himself to speak. His voice is rather composed, reassured. ] I have been summoned to this place. For what purpose, I do not know yet. [ But there is a purpose, there has to be, he knows. Even if he's not here as a Servant exactly, there's always some sort of purpose when God is involved. All he has to do is figure out what, and that thought steadies him, makes him as calm as always. ]

It seems this summoning was quite.. unconventional though. And though I do know that I should be giving out my name first before asking any questions as a sign of good will, I am not quite sure if it would be right to refer to myself as 'Archer' when I have not entirely been summoned as such this time. Still, any information at all concerning my current predicament would be appreciated.

[ a slight nod, almost to himself more than anything. ]

You are in Prospero, an island city off the coast of what is called 'America'. You are among many who have been brought here, and the apparent purpose would seem to be to fight the monsters that appear at midnight.

Welcome to Prospero. I apologize that I don't know how to get you out of here again, but please accept the limits of what I can offer.

The hotel is free for us to stay at, and relatively safe from the Shadows that appear at night. There are other Servants and Masters here, but so far very little fighting between us, since there are more important things to focus on.

Didn't you have a name before you were 'Archer'? Since you haven't been summoned.

Fighting monsters, is it.. [ he hums a little thoughtfully. ] At the very least I have to say I'm not completely inexperienced, in that case.

It is... doubtful. Surely their Servants would be better informed of their mission, rather than merely left to assume what needed to be done and cast without their powers.

... It is alright. I do not have any particular reason to leave again immediately. [ what else is a heroic spirit to do but fight, after all. :T ]

And it understandable that they would not wish to confront each other here. This is not part of any Holy Grail War, after all - or I would assume so, at least. [ with this kind of not-quite summoning. ] ... But in that case, you are familiar with Masters and Servants too?

There are quite a number of Servants and Masters here. I was bound to find out something about it and the war that went on back home, even if I wasn't informed then.

We all did.. a long time ago. [ there's almost something slightly nostalgic in his tone, but it doesn't stop his rather calm attitude. ] It seems strange by now to still think of me as that person, though.

Diarmuid says he's going to be Diarmuid again instead of Lancer. And, there are enough Servants here that you might want to be that person again anyway.

That was the part I was rather curious about. In the times before this my mission, or at the very least what I was supposed to do, has usually been a bit.. clearer, at least.

I must make the best assumption I can of what my task is. Continued grumbling about clarity will serve me no use.

How strange, that there still is such a gathering of them even in a different sort of setting and for a different purpose..

You are right. If there are monsters, then the innocent should be protected from them. I don't need to have an exact debriefing to dedicate myself to that kind of cause.

Perhaps it's part of the mystery of why and how we were brought here.

It is not too far from what I had in mind when I dedicated myself. I too have no problem with eliminating a threat to the general good.
