[Action; Private to Kayneth]
[Priorities change. Be it through trauma, or sheer old boredom, it is difficult to stick to one motivation your entire life. Eventually, your beliefs are defied in one way or another, forcing you to either adapt or die.]
[Kiritsugu has reached that point, and yet, has not reached that point. The core of his ideas remains the same. Protect. Save. But where once he saw every life as equally valuable, now he no longer strives to save any but those he cares about. Yet deep down, the same desire to be a hero of justice tears him up inside.]
[Yes. Kayneth's appearance inspires feelings in him he does not quite recognize. Regret has been a constant companion since the culmination of the Fourth War, but what currently plagues him is much more akin to shame, an emotion Kiritsugu has never felt before.]
[Yet Kiritsugu did not learn the ability to block out all emotions to reach his goals. He was born with it.]
[Other unnatural feelings well up in him. Bizarre emotions that can only be caused by another incident. He will not let it happen. He will stop the appearance of Shadows before another one emerges. But to do so, he must rid himself of interruptions.]
[It takes a few days for Kiritsugu to find a moment when Kayneth Archibald would be the only man in his floor, but he does not waste a single second of it. Inserting poison gas into the air vent was not too difficult a task. Not when the hotel was of average quality, and thus, possessing a security system easily infiltrated by him. Nothing fancy by any definition. If he could provide the second El-Melloi with a tranquilizer gun, he would have been remiss to not have gotten one himself. Guards are easier to take down than Shadows, and falling asleep on the job is not too rare an occurrence.]
[...Once again, he took precautions against unnecessary losses. It was one thing to do so when lives were at stake and the balance could be tipped too much, but nobody would have truly died here. Poisoning the entire floor for the afternoon was not negotiable, as directing his attack against nobody but Kayneth would have drawn much more suspicion, but to have waited until he was the only one there... it must have been simply to avoid too much publicity. Wouldn't do if this stirred up a frenzy.]
[He can't help but find the irony in smoking at a moment like this.]
[Public]
[Typical of his afternoons, Kiritsugu can be found at his job at a local restaurant. He's passing the time organizing the service, waiting for his break to come. He seems to have invited Shirou to talk during that time. Whatever news come up on any TVs go seemingly ignored by him.]
[He also seems to be averting eye contact with Saber. While Kiritsugu would typically ignore her, he would not actually display any signs of her presence influencing him. Something's wrong.]

Hello, again. Did you have time to chat?
[Action]
[He still doesn't assume a seat, because sometimes being a service manager demands as much professionalism as mercenary work.]
How are you?
[Despite the fact that Issei is a person belonging to his peaceful, more social life, Kiritsugu is still not in the habit of small talk. With the new incident causing trouble, this is a genuinely interested question.]
[Action]
[It's an interested question in that Issei likes Kiritsugu and wants to make sure that he's fine so he doesn't have to do any worrying over him.]
[Action]
[An implication that that's a big part in putting his mind at ease. It has already been established between them that Issei knows of the War, and so, it's quite likely that he knows just how many dangerous individuals are here. The Dark Hour doesn't help matters.]
[Action]
[Action]
What about you? Where have you been staying, Ryudo-kun?
[He actually hasn't investigated. Though the fact that there are so many threats certainly plays a part in it, Kiritsugu has made a point of not interfering with Shirou's social relationships so he won't do anything that may alienate them.]
[She doesn't count. No Servants do.]
Re: [Action]
[Action]
[Not an attempt to use a less powerful word than 'threats'. In Kiritsugu's mind, they're the same thing.]
I know I don't need to tell you this, but it's best to be cautious.

KingQueen of Knights finds it an easier and less embarrassing for her eating habits if she went from restaurant to restaurant. For one, the cooks felt the relief of a well-needed break and the other was that no one really thought of her as a regular.Had she known Kiritsugu was an employee here, she might have chosen to another place. Awkward glances in his general direction and not one bite taken from the dish before her. ]

[That's the kind of thoughts that currently inhabit Kiritsugu's mind. Justifications for not having to talk to her. Though the Servant is the person he holds the most resentment to, he has a soft spot for family, and the emotions in his mind certainly resemble the good times he had with his daughter.]
[But he's not fooled. Memories are not a part in this, and without them, Kiritsugu is easily able to decipher this is another one of Prospero's tricks. Yet the feelings don't go away. So similar to those from back home. Kiritsugu is excellent at blocking away emotions, but these emotions strike at his one weak spot. It's almost as if she's in front of him.]
[He waves.]
[Emiya Kiritsugu waves.]

This man. This deplorable man. This man whom she forgives and hates all at the same time.
He is the wall that stands between what she suspects is true love and herself. Of all the people to fall in love with, it had to be the son of this very man.
The memories of him hurt - betrayal not an easy thing to forget about and he ripped away so much from her. The Holy Grail, her dignity, her love. So why, she wants to scream at the heavens, why does she just want his approval?
Even though he greets her, she still keeps her distance as though she were a small child afraid to approach the man they admired most. ]

[Kiritsugu's friendliness ends there. His kindness towards his family overshadows his disdain for anything in this world, and thus, the scale tips one way, but it is not enough. Not enough to make him forget that the person in front of him is his opposite in so many ways. That their relation to each other is stained with blood. That among the many individuals he has met, she is one of two who know the basis, the origin of his wish. The only one to have deciphered it on her own.]
[With a few words to his coworkers, the former mercenary heads out to take his break, deciding to wait outside. He doesn't need memories right now.]
[If Saber decides to follow, he will make no attempt to escape the scene. In a way, ignoring her is comforting in its own way. Much harder than simply bursting out in criticism, but at least he can block out those dark days.]

Shirou could never be happy with this conclusion, could he?
So what's left is to act on these feelings and try to make things as right as they can be. While there's a hefty amount of danger behind it, there's a strange impulsive nature that distorts her way of thinking. ]
Kiritsugu. [ She chose the man over food.
This is serious.] Please.. just speak with me!no subject
[Never mind the fact that he has met his nemesis, or seen the faces of so many people that might have as well been vengeful ghosts. To Kiritsugu, this is a hell more personalized than any he has seen before. At least, any since that one day...]
[He turns to look at her. Not through Saber, as if she was mere air. It's clear he's listening to her, as much as he may dislike that fact. At the same time, he can't help but pursue it.]

I love Shirou. [ Why is it she can only bring that up when she speaks to him? Why can't it be "I hate you!" or "Beg for my forgiveness so that I may deny you of such!" No, she's incapable of feeling that way even if she wants to make him pay. ] I love him and he loves me. I want to spend time with him and I want to.. I want to be with him as much as I can be here! He tries so hard to make things work between the two of us and I try, so it is about time you try as well, Kiritsugu!

[Kiritsugu's words sound wistful. Void of hope. Unlike anything he would ever say to another conscious being, because it isn't. It appears he is speaking to himself, in an attempt to reconcile his desire to stay silent towards her and voice his frustration with this entire situation in two succinct words.]
Why him...?
[The War already ruined one of them. Kiritsugu can accumulate as much motivation as he wishes, but the memory of murdering the image of his loved ones with his bare hands will always be waiting at the end of the road, stopping him from fully becoming the man he was ten years ago. So why must Shirou be involved with remnants of the War as well? Kiritsugu carries the title of Magus Killer, but he no longer truly is that man. Not when the most he can do is try to get a reason out of the person who he refuses to see as anything but a girl turned into a cog of war.]

[ For Arturia Pendragon it was that simple. If Shirou Emiya was to love her, then she will devote herself in return with all of her being. It was that boy who helped her overcome her depression and low self-esteem. It was that boy who helped her accept herself for who she is. ]
And because.. because I love him too!
[action]
Between the pineapple-y scent and the fact that Kayneth's eyes are giving him hell... oh, and the vent too, once he takes a look at it.
Someone is trying to kill him. Again.
How many people did he offend during the Fourth Grail War? He has to wonder about this as he slams his book shut and rushes out of the room.]
[action]
[Kiritsugu stands watching the several screens in front of him, the unconscious security on the floor still a few hours from waking up.]
[Finding a time at which Kayneth Archibald would have surely been asleep wouldn't have been difficult. What's more, maybe he would have even had the chance to tamper with the door's lock then. Unfortunately, such a time would demand that someone else would be in the floor with him.]
...Damn.
[What is he doing? First the hotel, now this? He will never be able to ensure Shirou's safety if he imposes limits on himself. Is he being affected by what his son said about his actions?]
[...No use in backing out now. Preparing another attack will redirect his efforts from the original sequence of events he had planned. For now, he has to focus on other opponents.]
[It won't be long until someone arrives. With the cameras taken care of, there's no use in disposing of the data currently inside them, but Kiritsugu's nothing if not cautious. Though able to be recovered, whoever finds them won't have any use for the files, and deleting them will at least serve as a distraction.]
[His business done, Kiritsugu leaves the room.]
[Action]
Dad, did you call for me?
