I'm in 'Prospero', in the US. I have no idea how I got here, let alone who managed to spirit me off a verdamnt aircraft carrier in the middle of the Pacific. Well, as long as I'm in Prospero, 'if this were played upon a stage, I must condemn it a most improbably fiction'.

Before any idiots ask, I'm referencing Shakespeare, okay?

Anyway, someone had better explain to me what's going on here. I have very important business in Japan, which, by the way, the fate of the world depends on, and my employers are not going to be happy about this involuntary leave here. And this is without even going into whatever the hell that trip was last night. Seriously, Analytical Psychiatry is bunk anyway.

That sums it up pretty well, actually. I'm trying not to worry about what's going on "back home", for lack of a better euphemism, myself. Who knows how time flows here compared to elsewhere.

Both. It only went all amorphous for a few seconds before exploding, though.

[Yeah, Asuka only spent a couple of weeks solid studying that after action report. Friggin' first Angel combat in history and she was on the other side of the friggin' world.]

These ones are much smaller though, right? I mean, they might be related, but there's also a good chance it's just a coincidental similarity.

Well, they are much smaller and there doesn't seem to be any other connection...they didn't have AT Fields, for one thing.

[Sigh. She's really starting to feel clueless.] I'll take a guess that and AT Field's some kind of defensive... thing?

Yeah. It's the real reason only Evangelions can fight Angels - otherwise you could just blow the things up from a distance with rockets. Evas and Angels both have AT Fields, but it takes a lot of concentration and training for a pilot to get her Eva to form one. Naturally, I can do it 9 times out of 10. The fields can stop almost anything, but they also neutralize each other, so it's all about getting in close, matching its field, and blasting it right in center-mass!

[Just describing it is getting Asuka pretty enthusiastic. That kind of fight is what she lives for.]

Sounds -- well okay, obviously dangerous. But ridiculously dangerous, too. So the thing that protects you -and- the enemy, can be used as a weapon to hurt the enemy too? Close combat's really the only way to go about it?

Not necessarily. The rookie managed to snipe the last one from a few miles away and just plain overwhelm it with energy. What we're trained for, though, is fairly short ranges. Knives or autocannons or fists.

I'd try to warn you against close range if you're going to fight against the whatchawannacall'ems here because you wouldn't have your, err, Evangelion, to protect you. But I guess our options are kinda limited, huh?

I was practicing motion control for an axe before I wound up here.

I like axes, so I'm gonna use one.

Besides, it's not like they're gonna sell a fourteen year old a gun. Not even in America.

Kinda figured that'd be the case. Both for the "going to fight" and "style of fighting" parts... Just, speaking as a non-combatant? Be careful out there. It doesn't matter how good you are if you slip up even once.

Then I'll fight perfectly.

[Devola chuckles. This girl's definitely got chutzpah, and that's... not quite inspiring, but uplifting in a situation like this, really.]
