[accidental video] John: Wake up already

[John's phone falls to the ground and the video switches on to reveal him sitting up gingerly and rubbing his head. Waking up in an alley was not what he expected to be doing today. How the hell?

Oh. Wait..... Wasn't he looking for that serial killer? Actually.... did he find him? He certainly remembers a finding this guy and then... a lot of pain.... He still feels like crap.

He glances around and finally notices that his phone is on. He picks it up.]

Hey guys....

Um.... I'm not sure what happened, but I think I've been out for a while.

So.... what'd I miss?

Good.

There is a lone suspect in custody and I agree that this person is probably the killer, yes.

Unfortunately, it will in the sense that he's almost certainly capable of escaping the prison. If nothing else, however, I am confident in my ability to successfully prosecute him for the murder of over half a dozen natives -- the methods he used against them were mundane, if disgusting.

Did I not already state that I'm aware he's capable of that? I know full well that under the circumstances he can't be punished for his crimes effectively; however, in addition to working on prosecuting him for the sake of the other benefits of convicting him, I'm also working on that.

Indeed. It means he'll have a criminal record, for one thing, and a rather unsavory one at that -- this will complicate his life going forward. For another, the truth about the natives' murders will be plain for anyone to know; I can attest to the power of the truth to put one's mind at ease.

Perhaps more importantly, he'll be less able to procure weapons.

Personas are both difficult to summon and immaterial outside of the Dark Hour, so that particular imbalance hardly matters. However, your point otherwise stands -- the police will be risking their lives to a greater degree than they do every day. That makes it all the more important that we find or invent an effective way to punish him.

If we tried to involve everyone too quickly, it may come to blows -- not all of us hail from civilized places and times or are willing to settle disputes with words so readily. Wright and I intended to find a wide selection of the more reasonable among us and invite them to such a meeting before attempting to speak with the entire community.

It was our intention to work on that very list upon our return. Unfortunately, this occurred almost immediately after our arrival here.

Things won't truly settle down until we find a way to serve justice effectively. We have some time before he grows bored of his cage, but there's no telling how little or much of it.

The only thing that the situation allows -- improvise. Wright is more talented at that than I, but as he vanished in the midst of the killing spree, I must put in twice the effort.

There are others who are willing to help, but I've found myself bearing the majority of the burden myself regardless -- apparently, my determination to see this through means that most expect me to already possess all the answers.
truthsnomiracle: Edgeworth is rubbing his forehead with his fingers to stave off a headache. (Must I explain again?)

Didn't I already state that I'm trying, Egbert? That being said, at least Mr. Ridgeley seems more willing to discuss the matter with me on even terms.

I'll keep that in mind. (Though I don't see how you could be of use for this in particular.)
