Either this is the most poorly conceived kidnapping attempt ever, or someone wants my attention. Either way, while I admire your resourcefulness to be able to remove me from my castle despite my security, I'm afraid we have a problem. Now, I'm a reasonable man, so I'll give you a chance to come out and explain yourself. What is it you want? Money? Technology? Or is this about the gargoyles? Well, if it's anything like that, you can forget it. With that in mind...I'm listening.

I'm afraid I'm no kidnapper, nor do I know anyone in immediate connection to them.

I do wonder what exceptionally well-designed gargoyles would be worth a kidnapping.

It would come as no surprise to me if there was no reason for bringing you here to begin with.

I'm surprised you haven't already heard.

There's always a reason, even if it's just pure malice.

I keep well-abreast of the news here, but it is, after all, a small island.

Would a cosmic coincidence not be sufficient? An act of fate? If a phenomenon was responsible, then surely, you would have to agree there's no "intent" behind a force of nature.

Maybe news simply hasn't reached here yet. Speaking of which, do you know where exactly we are?

I suppose a supernatural accident is a possibility...but it strikes me as odd that this supposed force of nature would be so generous as to supply us with communication technology or so predictable that someone could leave it exactly where it's needed.

Not that far, then. Still, it's clearly nowhere near New York and, if you'll forgive my bluntness, doesn't exactly seem to be living up to its name.

Is it not entirely possible that could be unrelated? The force might only be responsible for transporting us here. Even then, you're correct. There must be some conscious presence who sees it fit to prepare this for us.

True enough. Should I take it that you're also here against your will?

That brings us back to the fact that I woke up with it on my person. That implies that either there's a connection or my mysterious benefactor went out of their way to find me and give me the communications device without waking me up, then just left me in the street with no explanation given.

That appears to be the mystery yet unsolved in this place. You'll find little conclusive answers for quite a while. In the meantime, I would be happy to continue discussing conjecture.

What have you gathered so far?

Considering we seem to be free to roam the city, it's fairly obvious that our kidnappers are fairly confident that they don't need to hold us in one place to get what they want. It doesn't rule out a hostage situation, if they have weaponry capable of destroying the entire island, but it does suggest that they feel no need to come across as overtly hostile, either. Possibly a show of power, though that does raise the question of why they haven't identified themselves, at least as a symbol.

An observant man like yourself may find more clues during your stay here. Regardless of whether or not the questions are answered, yes, we will have much time to mull over them. Provided that we are truly given that luxury.

Why wait around for it to be given? I'm sure there are ways to buy it if need be.

You must have been quite the important man if you had such wealth and resources at your disposal.

I'm nothing special, just the founder and CEO of one of the richest and most influential business empires in the world.

That people are brought here from all times and places, and leave without warning; that monsters appear at midnight each night, and attack mindlessly; that powers are given to us in exchange for losing whatever powers we might have had... the list continues.
