[Action?/Video] April 13th~Happy Birthday to John~

[If you happen to be living in the school dorms, you may have noticed some strange things on Friday morning. Buckets placed precariously over slightly ajar doors. Many of them filled with glitter or confetti. Careful, they might fall. There is black shoe polish smeared on the light switches in the bathrooms. In the common living area of Deacon hall, all of the chairs have whoopee cushions on them. And a few 'lucky' people have their door blocked off with copious amounts of duct tape. Enjoy. Feel free to ignore the silly pranks. John can be pretty immature.]

[That afternoon, John is getting on the phone.]

Hey guys!

So, it's kind of my birthday today! Would anyone be interested in getting together and watching movies or something?

It is! And good choice. There's nothing better than popcorn for movies.

I just got everything that I remembered them having at the theatre.

*She means everything. Right down to the buckets of fries and frozen yogurt from the specialty stands, plus all manner of candy down to weird alien Cool Ranch Twizzlers. One does not simply outdo Kiryuu Kaoru.*

[He is only just now realizing just how much she brought. This much would be enough for an entire theater of movie-goers.]

Wow, what did you do? Just get everything they had?

[But he'll just be helping himself to some of those twizzlers.]

Somebody mentioned that their birthday customs included a day's worth of food.

It does! But it doesn't usually all come from one person.

I'm kind of impressed. I mean, that you went out of your way like this.

...Hm.

Who's coming?

Saori said she was, and Sakurako. And I talked to Neville, Issei, and Ayako too. And a bunch of other people too.

Whoever wants to come, I guess. But even if none of them show up, the fact that you came still makes this a pretty awesome birthday.

You're easy to please.

That should be something you decide, not me, shouldn't it?

Hehe, I'm going to go with 'good' then. It's totally a good thing.

All right. *She starts to unload the food.*

[He'll give her a hand with that.]

So, I managed to find a copy of Con Air. It was actually in the bargain bin. Can you believe that?

We have to watch that one.

That's your favourite, isn't it?

Right! It is one the best movies ever made! You are gonna love it.

[He's so confident in his terrible taste in movies. It's almost sad....]

...Then I'll watch it.

*She sits down, looking around the room.*

[Well, she is in for quite a ride. Con Air is a melodramatic, overacted mess of explosions and Nicolas Cage being Nicolas Cage. John is riveted, even though this is the hundredth time he's seen it.]

Oh, this part is really good! Check this out.

[Put the bunny back in the box. I said put the bunny back in the box. ]

*Kaoru's watching! ...she's got no expression on her face whatsoever, but she's usually like that.*

...

[After waaaay more explosions than is strictly necessary, the movie finally winds down. She can feel free to laugh at John when he's almost in tears over Cameron Poe's dramatic reunion with his daughter Casey, presenting her with the desperately defended stuffed bunny.]

So what do you think? Awesome, right? Cage is a genius!

Are all movies like this?

There's some other good ones, if that's what you mean. We could watch Deep Impact sometime.

What's that one about?

It's a sci-fi disaster movie about a comet that going to hit the earth. A bunch of scientists decide to try blowing it up, but it winds up just breaking it into two fragments, and those are still hurtling dramatically toward the planet.

Meanwhile, the government has to decide who gets to evacuate into their shelter because it doesn't have enough room to save everyone. It's pretty exciting.

The end of the world...

Pretty much. I know that's not exactly original, but they pull it off really well.
