It's nice to meet you Garviel, I'm sure we'll be able to battle along side each other. Though I do not know much about sorcery and magic compared to Merlin, but these "Shadows" what are they exactly? Can they be slayed with a sword?

Some can be cleansed with bolter and blade, yes. Others require a more esoteric method of destruction.

A call to arms... I think that might be the reason. This may sound really weird, but, um, at night these shadow-like creatures appear and it seems like only the people who have been brought here are able to see and fight them.

Correct, but do not underestimate your opponent. There are many here with varying skills and what may be without trouble to them could present a world of trouble to yourself. Even I have been overwhelmed before.
