*It's the middle of the night, a good bit after Dark Hour, but Allen isn't asleep. His phone is recording him sitting at his desk, the glow of both his heavily modified desktop computer and a futuristic holographic screen providing most of the lighting. But even in the low light, it's easy to tell that something's eating at him.*

What the hell did I even mention that out loud for? As if the dreams weren't bad enough already...it's almost like I wasn't even thinking before I spoke up.

*He shakes his head and shuts down the holoscreen before grabbing a pot of coffee off of his desk and topping off a mug of the stuff.*

But why that, of all things? Dammit, this is just what I need...

*He rubs his forehead, then starts emptying packets of sugar into the coffee as the phone flicks off.*

Unless he'd been following her invisibly for over three years...and by the time it all ended, it was pretty obvious he really was who he claimed.

He needed her cooperation. The Testaments weren't acting on their own. They were working for a guy called Wilhelm, and he was...you'd have to ask one of them for the exact details, but he wasn't human and never was. He knew the universe was eventually going to end and was trying to prevent that, but...

*His voice tenses and the 'clunk' of him setting his coffee down harder than is strictly necessary can be heard.*

Instead of trying to actually stop it, he decided that the only way to save the universe was by reversing time, back to the start of everything. Among other things, he needed her abilities and a pendant she carried to do that.

[And this is several seconds of bewildered silence.]

Heh... *The most mirthless laugh.* I know, that would have been my reaction if someone had tried to explain it to me a year ago. Ultimately, it all comes down to a matter of opinion. He thought he was doing the only thing that could save the universe and we thought he was wrong and sacrificing too much for it. That's...all there really is to it.

...It would seem that you're used to bearing burdens far greater than those I'm used to.

It was mostly my friends, actually. All I really did was figure some things out and convince her that she shouldn't side with the Testaments.

If the fate of your universe itself hung in the balance as you say, then having even a small part in such events easily dwarfs anything I've accomplished or could hope to accomplish. (The fate of this island alone is...)

Maybe...I just hope we can follow up. We didn't stop the destruction down the road, after all, just bought ourselves time to actually try. Actually fixing things is going to be a lot of work, and might involve changing the outlook of the entire human race.

That task sounds... extraordinarily daunting.

(As well as reminiscent of my impression of the task ahead of me...)

That's why I'm worried. I trust MOMO to find a way to re-establish communications, but if we want to make a real difference, we'll have to find a planet that's been lost for over four and a half millennia.

It's kind of ironic. This is actually the planet we're looking for, but finding it by being sucked into an alternate version of the distant past isn't going to help at all. When I first got here, I'd hoped that it might mean something, but so far it's just meant a headache and watching Shion disappear just when I was getting my hopes up. I'm grateful that I met you and got a chance to get to know Gaignun, but...I guess I'm just a little sick of getting tossed from one absurd situation to the next without so much as a chance to take a break. I haven't even slept decently since I got here. At least back home I had a way to keep my mind active and conscious while my body slept, but now...I'm just lucky I can usually get back to sleep after the Labyrinthos nightmare. Not that that makes sleeping in general any more inviting...

How is it that finding Earth would aid with such a task? Furthermore, could astronomical data from this era not provide clues towards the location in your own?

Star systems move, so information from this time period would only give us information about where it was over five thousand years ago. It might tell us the vague direction we want to go in, but we already have an idea of that.

As for why it's so important...I don't understand it completely myself. chaos told us before he sacrificed himself that we should start on Lost Jerusalem. That's what we call Earth in my time. All I can think of right now is that it has something to do with it being humanity's birthplace.

Hence why I propose that it would only be a clue rather than a complete solution.

I fail to see how that alone could make a difference, but I couldn't begin to speculate as to what might be found there.

I thought about it when I first got here, but there's not really anything it could tell us that we don't already know.

*Clinking of his spoon against his mug and a pause as he drinks from it.*

A lot of people consider this planet sacred. There was even an entire major religion that made returning to it a priority. If it's humanity's fear and hostility that's driving the universe to destruction, it's possible that going home in a sense could be the first step toward preventing it.

I don't follow your logic, but neither do I have the information necessary to judge.

What reason do you have to trust him to such a degree?

He's...in a position to know. It's his power that's destroying the universe, whether he wants it to or not, so if anyone knows what's setting it off, it's him. And I know him...he wouldn't ever want that power to activate.

(Presumably, more direct and obvious-seeming solutions have been ruled out if all sides are considering such grandiose ones instead.)
