First Catch [video]

[The feed turned on to the sight of a young boy wearing what looked like a soccer uniform, and a bright orange headband. He seemed to be unaware that the phone device had turned on, and was instead looking around and attempting to discern his location.]

Where is this place...? It doesn't look like Raimon...

[As he looked around, his eyes landed on the phone device. He moved to pick it up, and examined it, causing the feed to blur for a bit, before finally settling to stare at the screen.]

What is this? A phone? Did someone lose it?

[Endou fiddled with the device for a bit before realizing that it was on, and was recording.]

Ah, it's on? Uh... hello, is anyone there? Do you know who's phone this is?

Then I'll go ask someone where the 7/11 is!

[About 45 minutes later, Endou stops in front of the 7/11 store, and looks around, searching for Nny.] Oh yeah, I never got to see his face... how am I going to find him?

[Don't worry. It's kind of hard to miss the very thin, gaunt man leaning against the freezy machine, happily drinking his. He nods a bit in Endou's direction when he sees him. Maybe Endou didn't see Johnny's face, but Nny saw his from the first post he did.]

Hello.

[Endou's face lights up and bounds over to Nny, stopping in front of him and giving him a big grin.]

Nny!

[Nny just kind of freezes for a moment, straw in his mouth mid sip. He's honestly a little bit surprised by the immediately cheerful hello. You don't even know him and you're greeting him like that? Do you know how different from his own home that is?]

....Mamoru, right? Is that your first or last name, because I know they do this thing where's it's changed around in Japan.

That's my first name, but I don't mind if you call me by that!

What do people usually call each other by their last name where you're from?

[Endou nods.] It's supposed to be polite to call people by their last name. We don't usually call other people by their first name unless we're close to them!

I guess that makes sense. It's something this country could use, a way to be more polite.

Everybody I met has been nice so far though!

That's the thing.

If people are good at one thing in general, it's lying.

[Endou frowns a little, before smiling again.]

Well, I'll trust them until they give me a reason to think they're lying!

That's stupid.

What'll you do if they hurt you before then?

[Sorry Endou. Johnny is an eternal pessimist ~~on top of being a bad person~~.]

...maybe they had a good reason to do what they did. I'd find out why they decided to hurt me first!

[Well, eternal pessimist, meet the eternal optimist. This kid can only look at the good side of things, never the bad.]

Reason?

People don't need a reason. And if for some reason they feel they do, they'll simply cling to the most petty one possible.

All people want to do, in the end, is hurt each other. It's what they're hardwired to do.

[Endou frowned.] I don't think everybody wants to hurt each other... I'm sure there are people out there who want to get along with everybody!

There are a few. It'd be nice if there were more than there actually are.

A few is better than none!

[Well. He can't fully argue that. So he'll just sip his drink in silence for a moment.]

It's dangerous here. You should probably find someone you can trust and stick with them.

I'm used to not having anyone I trust.

[Wow, he damn near chokes on the last bit of his freezy at that. Are you crazy, kid?]

[He'll be putting his cup down and heading out to leave. yes. Clearly this is the best course of action.]

I'm not exactly a trustworthy person.

But you've helped me this whole time! I don't have a reason not to trust you.
