Unit 9 [Action/Video] - This one's a killer, don't die.

For the past few dark hours, people around town may have caught a brief sight of a young woman disappearing in to the shadows. Her movements are fluid, and practiced, and she is clearly tracking someone.

It's the Dark Hour between Friday and Saturday that she catches up with her wayward prey, dropping down in front of him. Gaignun's phone drops out of his pocket, flicking onto Video once it hits the ground, the camera staring up at the two figures. The woman is the first to speak, the first words out of her mouth were not a greeting, or an insult, but a simple question.

“Why are you in control? Where's father?”

"C-Citrine?!"

Ahahah...[His laughter is a little bit embarrassed] Yes, indeed. I hadn't meant to be caught out in the open by myself, and I have to admit, I hadn't considered that they would use her.

As for adventures, they can also interfere with self discovery if they prevent you from thinking.

But that just made her a little bit more effective, didn't it? It gave her the element of surprise.

Hmmm... even if you have the time to think, who's to say your thoughts won't be manipulated? You have to rely on your own strength of character to realize your own failings and overcome them, even if analyzing the situation logically would indicate there is no possibility. And even if it turns out you can't... You will still know whether or not you are the type who can get up after a defeat.

[Her expression was thoughtful for a bit, before going back to her usual silly smile.]

Eheheh, somehow this conversation got kind of serious. We should really lighten up! After all, we did just manage to stop another one of those pesky Shadows.

I suppose so, Allen faced a shadow that would have been the worst for me so I just assumed they'd pick someone who I would be happy to shoot in the head.

[Ugh...manipulated thoughts. Yeah, not going there with a ten foot pole. When it actually happens to you, that hypothetical concept starts to get really troubling.]

That's true, we did, didn't we. One less of those ones on the street. It will make a difference.

[Ain't that always how it goes.]

I've been trying to keep track of who has met with a Shadow so far, but I'm not sure how many have been broadcast and how many might involve people who have managed to keep their phones off. Counting the both of us, I'd say it's around... fourteen now? And if you assume there's one per person, then...

[They've still got a ways to go before they've eliminated all of the threats.]

Well, it may not be correct, but it seems to be a valid observation based on what we've seen so far. Also, the one per person thing falls in with some of the other stunts this place has pulled.

Still, we may yet be proven wrong.

I hope it turns out to be less than expected, then! This is really troublesome. I'm not a very violent person, but even this is pushing it!

[So sayeth the girl who tried to attack a boy on crutches.]

I know. This place is forcing people to fight like its own private arena.

Forcing people to fight against potentially traumatic opponents.

I hope they don't think they'll get away with this sort of thing for much longer.

They wont, and thankfully, as far as I can tell, when we leave this place there are no memories of it.

[Oh thank goodness, there's the hotel. Soon he'll be able to sit down. Soon.]

Even if we don't have memories when we leave, that doesn't make it okay! And it's not like all of us have somewhere to go outside of this place.

Even though it might not affect our lives in our own worlds, our lives here still mean something.

[Aaaand arrival! She'll quicken her pace to get the door for him.]

Perhaps not, but it's better then being paraded about for someone's amusement or power struggle. [Oh Hiyono, you kind girl you.]

Of course our lives mean something here. Any life means something where it is being lived.

And no matter what kind of life it is.

[Her tone is firm. She can't really believe anything else after witnessing what she did in her own world.]

Anyway, will you need help getting to your room? I could lend you a shoulder if you need it.

Yes, you're right. [Gaignun smiled down at Hiyono and shook his head.] I'll be alright as long as I take the elevator. However, if you're feeling really helpful, could you get me a cup of coffee from the lobby?

I know if I stop I'll just not move again for a while. [So this may be taking advantage of her helpful nature, but caffeine would be really comforting right about now.]

[It takes a brave man to allow Hiyono of all people to prepare his coffee...]

Just a cup of coffee? Sure, I can do that! Your room was... 705, right?

[Let's just say it can't be worse then if he does it.]

Yes, that's right. Thank you, I really appreciate this.

It's no problem at all! I'll see you once it's ready.

Alright. I'll see you in a bit then. [And he's just going to slowly make his way back to his room.]

[As promised, she bustles off to make some coffee! And once she's done, she'll go up and knock at his door.]

Coffee's ready!

[It takes him a few minutes to come to the door, having made the mistake of sitting down when he got in.]

Thank you Hiyono. [It's not dissolving the cup, so already it's better then his.] It's late, you should be heading back to your place as well.

You're sure? I don't mind sticking around a little longer. Besides, I can afford to sleep in on a weekday.

I'm sure. [He didn't want Hiyono to see him moping over having to shoot a shadow who looked like his sister executioner style.]

You're young and you need your sleep.

[Darn. So close to an opportunity to ~~bug a room~~ hang out yes indeedy.]

Fiiine. If it's still bothering you tomorrow, make sure you find someone with a healing spell to patch you up, okay?

[Hiyono, why would you want to bug his room? Less then interesting things go on here.]

[Because if it will give her a sliver of new information, Hiyono doesn't mind violating privacy laws.]

And again, it really was nothing. Rest well!

[If she wants to know something, all she has to do is ask, he has very little to hide at this point. Stupid memory event.]
