1st Shot -- [Accidental Video]

[The video flicks on. First appearance, the camera is staring at a sidewalk. The camera turns up and shows Gilbert, staring down at the device, a puzzled look on his face.]

What is...?

[The video turns again, showing the sidewalk a second time.]

First these new surroundings and now this?!

[There's a pause as the video jerks, showing a pair of black boots now.]

And where the hell is Oz?!

No, it doesn't. [A bit of a forced chuckle.] Believe me, that's pretty much the theme of this place. Especially when you just get here.

[A sigh.]

I don't need anymore problems like this!

Trust me, give it a few days and it won't wholly seem like a problem. Either that or I'm way too adaptable for my own good... [She pauses, humming thoughtfully.]

[Another sigh.]

I'm sure it won't change much for me.

Well, it is what you make of it. Go on with that attitude and it definitely won't change. Not saying you've gotta accept it all, but that kinda outlook won't help you no matter where you are.

[Yet another sigh.]

I know, I know.

Heh, sorry. I didn't mean to lecture you there. I've just seen a lot of people become fatalistic before -- err, not here, mind you, just in general. It always ends poorly.

...Anyway, anything else ya need?

No... it's fine.

I need to know where I am. And where I go from here. I can't just stand on this walkway, can I?

[Gilbert looks around.]

There's a building with the sign 'Felix's Finds' across the street.

Felix's Finds... ah, alright. It's not too far of a walk, but... give me a few minutes?

[Not that she really waits for a response, affirmative or negative. The screen shows a flurry of motion for a scant few seconds before going silent.

A bit more than five minutes later, depending on Gilbert's hearing, the clicking of shoes against pavement will announce Devola's presence far before the woman herself does.]

[Gilbert goes ahead, while he's waiting, and lights up a cigarette while taking in his surroundings. There's so many things he's not use to. And he does hear those clicking shoes. He looks over at her.]

Glad to see you made it.

Sorry it took so long. I confess, I'm not the speediest walker.

[She pauses, looking at him quizzically.]

What's that smokey-thing?

It's fine.

[Gilbert looks a little surprised by that.]

... it's a cigarette.

Huh, never woulda guessed...

Anyway, where to first? Decent bunch of places of interest, though you've already managed to find one of 'em on your own.

[Also surprised by this.]

Yep yep. Felix's Finds. [She points to the shop itself, as if to further enunciate her meaning.]

As far as I know, it's where people have the least difficulty in getting armaments. Swords and the like, maybe guns? Never had a use for it, myself, but...

[It's at this moment Gilbert checks for his weapon. Still there. But he'll run out of ammo eventually. He'll have to go in at some point and buy some.]

They just give weapons to anyone?

[She shakes her head vigorously] You're asking the wrong person for that one... I dunno how to use weapons, so I kinda haven't checked. If I had to give you an answer based off of what I've heard though; it sounds like that's the case, yes.

I guess I'll have to ask sometime, then. ... wait, you've never used a weapon?

Well, just a staff... [And she spaces her hands out, roughly 3' apart from one another.]

...But that's just for self-defense, and I'd prefer to beat a hasty retreat from whatever I'd use it against.

[Dryly] I'm a singer, not a fighter.

[Gilbert hesitates for a moment.]

I know someone that feels the same. He's a paper worker though.

Mm. It's not even that I'm a pacifist, just... not trained?

[A casual shrug.]

I should probably rethink my stance on that "not trained" bit, m'starting to feel like dead weight here.

[Gilbert hesitates for a moment.]

... there's nothing wrong with not being a fighter, even if it is just because you're not trained. There are other ways to help.

[She considers his words, nodding slowly and smiling.]

Yeah, you're right. Still, being surrounded by a buncha superhuman fighters leaves a body feeling just a touch... superfluous, I guess?
