R-right. We're investigating this mess down on the shore line but...s-since this obviously isn't natural, I thought I'd ask you guys for your opinion too, so...

What the hell happened?! Everyone at the station is freaked. They hadn't even had a murder case for ten years before a few months ago, and now we get something that looks like a mass suicide?

Jeez. What a great first case for me...

Didn't I say already? That the full moon Shadows might do worse things to the populace than they have already.

You really think Shadows did this? I mean, it's not like I have a better theory, but...

You're the one with the forensics team on your side; what's the cause of death of these?

Autopsies takes days or weeks to figure out something for real. None of them seem to have any serious wounds, though, so I'd have guessed drowning or poison.

Wouldn't those be all impractical to pull off against so many people at once? Furthermore, the full moon is approaching. Without better ideas, I'm sure this is the cause.

That's why the story we're kicking around for the press right now is a mass-suicide. It's not exactly comforting and opens up a lot of questions, but what the hell else would we use for a mundane explanation? A gas leak?

That's almost funny. The last time I heard about a gas leak on the news was because of a supernatural killer, too.

Seriously? Maybe we should go with that, then...

It's more plausible than the suicide.

[Oh hey, it's that patrolman who tends to make people at the station gripe by only showing up to punch in or out.]

Aren't you a little green to be heading this investigation?

Green? I'm an experienced homicide detective back in Japan, you know.

Besides, I'm not heading anything. I'm just the only detective who knows to get in contact with the rest of the "foreigners" when something weird happens.

You want me to explain to the commissioner here that people keep popping in from out of nowhere and fighting blobby black monsters in the streets every night? You really think that'd go over well? I'm keeping our connection quiet and handling it myself. If I tried to explain it, I'd be institutionalized.

Undefended from what? As far as crime goes, this town's got "whatever this thing is", "bored psychopath from out of town murders someone", and "jaywalking".

Kinda like the last place I was at, come to think of it.

[Jin shrugs.]

[Of course, in this case it's because it's kind of hard to get Jin to do anything like securing a perimeter.]

Well, whatever. If the department wants you away from here, that's their perogative.

Well... what would your professional opinion be? I went down to the shore and it seemed like there were too many for it to be any kind of natural or by-human-hands, to me.

My professional opinion is to wait for the coroner's professional opinion. Whatever killed them isn't really visible on the corpses. Could be poison, disease, they all fell in and drowned...

Yeah -- I didn't get a good look for, um, obvious reasons? Anyway, I didn't see any blood, either.

[She pauses, adding musingly.]

As far as the, uh... "extra-natural" is concerned: the last two big shadows came out on a full moon; that's soon. Furthermore one apparently made people turn into recluses before it showed up, the other turning them into obsessive gamblers. And then there was the touchy-feely thing without a shadow from the last full moon... guess I'm trying to say they've never done anything indirectly lethal. Nothing outside of altering people's habits.

Man. Maybe they're getting more serious. I was really kinda hoping I wouldn't have to deal with supernatural monsters, but if they're really what's behind this...

I'm not sure. If it was them, wouldn't there be some kind of mark? The ones out in town seem pretty geared towards physical violence; I'd think there'd be bruises or scratches visible...

If they can influence peoples' minds, I guess they can say "hey, y'know what'd be a neat idea? If you humans went and jumped in the ocean."

I... actually didn't think of that. Guess I'd either be really a bad big-Shadow, or a really good one.

[She sighs, rubbing at her temples.] Now I'm really worried that's the case.

...yeah, me too. I didn't think of that until I said it.

Hopefully the... coroner? Hopefully they'll find something natural about it. Much as I'm doubting that's the case.

[Quietly, almost inaudibly] Got a feeling we're in for a doozy this full moon...

And they all washed up at the same time? Seems unlikely. And no, nothing that indicates cause of death. They could have been poisoned, I guess, but that usually leaves an indicator that stays even after they get all bloaty.

All the bodies are in one piece, too. This is gonna be such a PAIN.

Look, bitching is just how I deal with my job, okay? I don't hate it, I just need to do something about going from one string of inexplicable deaths to another, got it? Otherwise I'd go crazy.

It is quite unusual but it's not completely surprising. Especially if you look back at what we have experienced here already.

[She pauses to think] Though it's difficult to tell if it is truly mass suicide or if it pertains to the shadows.

Everyone else on the phones seems pretty convinced it's Shadow-related, even though normal Shadows don't attack the natives.

It's highly possible it has to do with the shadows but it's best not to jump to conclusions. We may be dealing with something entirely different.

I'd rather believe we just had an insane number of jumpers for no reason, honestly.

If that were the case, this would be a much simpler mystery to solve but sadly I don't believe that's true.

I guess one of us should poke around in that Dark Hour thing to see what's happening...

That would be a good idea. Would you care to join me in exploring through the Dark Hour tonight?

Uh...w-well fighting monsters isn't exactly something I trained for...

Then allow me to fight in your stead if we encounter any shadows. As a detective it is your job to work as hard as possible to find clues that lead to the truth so it would be best for you to join me.
