Second Catch [Video/Action]

[The feed opened up to the view of... a soccer field, and no person in sight. For a while, the feed was devoid of human presence, but then Endou walked onto the field, looking upset. There was a lone soccer ball nearby him, but he made no move towards it, walking past it instead. To those who knew him, it was an indication that whatever was upsetting him was serious. Endou Mamoru would never ignore soccer in favour of something else, never.

It took a while for Endou to realize his phone was recording him, but once he did, he moved over to the phone, and after staring at the screen for a few seconds, an unreadable expression on his face, he turned it off.]

[Relief and joy flooded through Endou. He would be able to see Ryudo again...!]

That's...! I'm really glad he'll come back!

But I wish I could've stopped this from happening in the first place...

I know how you feel. Had I known this would happen, I could have easily put a stop to it.

Maybe if I had my Persona, I could have saved him...

I have mine and I couldn't prevent this. Sometimes these things can't be stopped, unfortunately.

But...! [It pained him to think that he couldn't have done anything. He was pretty sure that if he tried hard enough, he would have been able to save him.]

I know, Endou. I don't like it any more than you do. But even people like me can't save everyone.

But if we tried hard enough, I'm sure we could have saved him!

[Impossible was a word that he never wanted to have in his dictionary. He wanted to believe that with enough effort, he could do anything.]

... [Lancer was not one to give up easily. None of the Fianna were, and how could he ever have stood beside Fionn himself if he was a man who simply gave up?]

[But there was no undoing the past. What had happened, happened. Even the greatest knight couldn't save the dead.]

We'll just have to try harder once he returns.

[Endou nodded with determination.] I'll train extra hard until I get my Persona! Then I can protect Ryudo and all of my friends!

Right. Both of us can.

[Endou nodded again and grinned brightly, spirits restored.] Yeah!!

[That was a good start.]

Are you feeling a little better now?

[At least he could help someone.]

[Endou nodded.] Yup! I feel up for some training!

What a coincidence. As it turns out I have some time to devote to training right now.

Then let's train together! What do you usually do when you train?

Ordinarily, I'd use lances--don't have either of them with me, though.

[He glanced over to the nearby soccer ball, taking off his glasses and slipping them into his pocket with a smirk.]

But I suppose even simple things can be regarded as physical training.

[Without even letting go of the books he was holding, Lancer kicked the ball into the air and caught it on one foot, holding it there and balancing on his other leg with seemingly no effort at all. Agility was a lovely thing to have.]

[Endou's eyes lit up and his grin widened. He ran over to the goal and got into a ready position.]

Give me your best shot, Lancer!!

Very well. I hope you're ready for this--!

[The funny thing about being a guy well known for pretty much running cross-country?]

[Even as a human, you're still dealing with a guy whose legs were pretty much goddamn cannons.]

[If the soccer ball flying at the goal now wasn't on fire, it probably should have been.]

[Well, Endou was used to flaming soccer balls flying at him, so this was nothing. But without his special soccer moves, he was hard pressed to keep the ball from entering the goal, and eventually he couldn't stop it anymore. It shot out of his hands and into the goal.

Instead of being upset like most people would, Endou was awed and excited.]

That was awesome, Lancer!!

I'm flattered you think so.

[And he didn't even put down the books he was carrying. yep, that is how a Badass Bookworm rolls.]

Shoot again! I want to be able to catch an awesome shoot like that!

[He tossed the ball back to Lancer and settled into a ready position again.]

Alright, alright. [Smirking, he set aside his books and shifted position, aiming his next shot carefully.]

[POW, flying soccer ball comin' atcha.]

[This time, Endou was prepared to receive his shot. He tried his best to block the shot, and definitely, he was improving. It took a couple more seconds before the ball was once again sent flying out of his hands and into his goal. Motivated even more by his improvement, he tossed the ball back to Lancer and waited for the next shot.]

Well done. A little more preparation and you could be able to stop it.

[NEARLY-FLAMING SOCCER BALL INCOMING]

[Nearly flaming? NOT FLAMING ENOUGH! It took all of Endou's strength and effort, and sliding a couple of inches back, but he managed to stop the ball proper. He gave Lancer a bright grin.]

I stopped it!!
