002-[video] John: Unwisely plan to do dangerous things...

[John's had a few days to settle in, enroll in school, and get bored. He's video posting in deference to the couple of people he's met who've been annoyed with the texting.]

Hey guys!

Uh, for those of you that haven't met me yet, I'm John Egbert. I've been here a few days now and I figure it's time to get started on climbing my echeladder again.

So, anyway, I heard about this weird dungeon that you can only explore during the dark hour. Anyone want to come with me to check it out?

[Anyone with any sense at all will probably say no.]
[OOC: this is intended to be a lead in to an actual dungeon crawl log. pretty much anyone is welcome to come, whether he knows them or not.]

[[Voice//private to Kaoru]]

Hey, Kaoru! It's John. When did you wanna go to that movie?

...Well, I was planning on snooping around in there sometime soon, myself. I guess I can chaperone.

Ah! Almost forgot to introduce myself. Name's Devola. Nice t'meet'cha, John.

Exactly why I wanted to give it a little look-see. Dunno what I'll find, but it's better than all the not-looking-into-things I've been doing.

[She grins.]

It's an early New Years resolution. "Stop slacking off."

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think you do. I mean, everyone on the phone's contact list seems to, so it stands to reason, right?

When did you want to go through with this plan of dubious safety, by the way?

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll try to keep my schedule open, then.

Also, I've gotta say, you're pretty gung-ho about this.

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't argue that. Not at all... Well, okay. Maybe the "fun" part. But like you said, we'll see!

[She murmurs, half to herself.] It's been so long since I stuck my nose in there, I wonder if it changed.

...Hm. If I had to put a term to it, I think it'd be "distilled Dark Hour."

All the creepy, not even half the space taken up.

Good question! They look like they come from it, but they don't have a punch-clock or anything like that that lets us find out for sure.

The highest concentration of the little stinkers is in that area though, that's for sure.

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. At the least, those are both pretty reasonable guesses.

Frankly, their level of sentience in general is kinda in question, but that's a whole other story.

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-21 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hm... They only really react to words with violence, even if they're contained all they do is lash out. On average they're about as smart as a wolf, maybe.

[A pause before she adds.]

There was some commotion about a month ago with some... different breed of shadows. I dunno if I'd count that as normal, though.

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-22 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Long story short: they looked like us -- us being the people still out and about during the dark hour, and knew stuff that only that person would know. It was like everyone had an evil twin that shared their brain and called itself a "Shadow". Kinda creepy!

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-26 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know.

...I didn't even think of that.

[A pause before she nods in agreement.]

Yeah. It'd be much more fun to see happen on a screen than it was to live it. That was... bleh.

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's more or less why they're interesting, though! More than being about bad things, they're about fantastic situations. The kinda thing you wouldn't normally see. They draw ya in like that.

I have a terrible confession to make: I've barely seen any at all. Only got to see my first a bit after I arrived here in Prospero.

[She tries to remember it.] I'm bad with names... It was about some men fighting in a big building... over money or something. Um, I think it was set in a time near to that upcoming holiday, too. There was this one scene where the hero was walking over glass with his bare feet... it looked really, really painful!
