[Hello, Prospero! This is a very disapproving and irritated Edgeworth with a display shelf full of various polearms behind him.]

In light of the results of a certain recent expedition, the general quality of the armaments I've observed among those who favor those that aren't firearms, and the length of the case thus far, I've been forced to conclude that either your collective observational skills could be reproduced by someone wearing headphones and a blindfold or your collective problem-solving skills are on par with those of cartoon villains.

As it seems that I must do your work for you, I spent today seeking out an arms dealer. As it only took me this long to discover this "Felix's Finds" which serves as the closest thing available, I would imagine that it would take someone unused to investigation roughly a week. Given that the kidnappings began in late June and no small number of us contend with murderous beings of an improbable nature on a regular basis, that the existence of this collector's shop isn't common knowledge begs explanation -- even should that explanation prove to further undermine my faith in humanity.

I unfortunately feel it necessary to clarify that he cannot afford to be open about his efforts to cater to our needs, and that his understanding of the situation is limited at best. As such, discretion is necessary in our dealings with him.

Honestly, I was originally planning to go in alone. But then I thought maybe someone else might be curious about what's down there. We have to explore that place eventually, right?

I didn't think so many people would want to come though....

...Egbert, was it not? Are you out of your mind?! Delusions of invincibility only lead one into disaster! Furthermore, while quick wits and snap decisions can serve one well on the tactical level, strategy is a matter of planning, prediction, and discretion!

[Edgeworth finally takes a breath, calms down, and clears his throat.] ...My point being that you should have taken the time to learn more before storming the castle, as it were. For example, many Shadows roam the streets during the Dark Hour; you could have taken the time to see how strong they were before launching yourself into a den of stronger ones still.

[Wow. This guy sounds a LOT like Rose. What with all the logic and stuff. But he also seems pretty upset, and John finally has the sense to look apologetic.]

Soo..... you're saying I should practice against the shadows outside the dungeon first? And not drag other people into it?

Sure, I can do that. I mean, I really wasn't trying to cause trouble, honest.

[He just hadn't thought anyone would care...]

[Edgeworth seems mollified now, at least.]

To go entirely alone into a situation even as dangerous as battling Shadows in the streets would be inadvisable. After all, should you come to harm, someone should be there to assist you. For the purpose of practice, one assistant should suffice, preferably one who has already manifested a Persona and is capable of defending themselves.

I hope that you've learned from this experience.

So what level do you think we need to reach before we hit the dungeon again?

Once the Shadows outside of the dungeon pose little threat to your team outside of an ambush or similarly advantageous situation and each of you is capable of summoning your Persona, yours and another similarly strong team could go on a joint scouting mission to assess the strength of what's in the dungeon. Once your intelligence-gathering is complete, you could then formulate a larger assault team based on your assessment of how strong the Shadows within are and what assortment of skills would be necessary to deal with the threat they entail.

Slow and steady, huh? That's not really the way I'm used to doing things, but I guess taking the slow road might be safer.

Indeed. The intervening time should allow the efforts to organize combat training to bear fruit as well.

Combat training? You're gonna teach people how to fight?

What?!

Erm, no, I haven't any combat skills at all; if anything, I may become a student should it prove necessary. However, my effort to bring this shop to others' attention has set in motion efforts by others to organize lessons.

Oh....

I guess that's a pretty good idea. I kind of had to teach myself how to fight. I figured it out pretty quick, but my friend Dave had learned from his Bro, and he's way better than me.

What forced you to make such a fateful decision?

[/Shrugs.]

Well.... I guess the imps attacking my house would be the first thing. And after that the monsters kept getting stronger and stronger. I had to get better just to survive.

(Thus does the variety of strange tales from the kidnappees continue to grow.)

If you speak the truth, then overconfidence in the face of the Dark Hour's dangers are understandable. Was your situation likewise confined to a given time of day?

Nah, once they showed up the monsters were everywhere. Pretty much all the time. Jerks completely trashed my house...

It's kind of weird only having them around at night.

Actually.... more like... destroyed, I guess.

[He tries not to dwell on the destruction of Earth, believing that there's still some mystical way for everything to just turn out alright.]

(What he's says and how he says it seem to correspond to one another, and yet he seems to default to a cheery demeanor and a carefree attitude. I cannot help but be reminded of...)

[Edgeworth sighs.] (I wonder what's become of her.)

Umm... it's messy. And everything happens either really slow or really fast. There's just no in between. And you tend to lose track of people if you're not careful.

[Or more like people tended to lose track of him because he wasn't careful. He can't even count the number of times he misplaced whatever communications device he'd been using st the moment...]

[Edgeworth nods grimly. What he's imagining isn't quite in line with the severity of what John went through, but it's enough for him to gain some newfound respect for the boy.]

No child should have to go through such a thing. I'm surprised, however, that you didn't learn more caution from the experience.

There wasn't really time to learn much from the experience. And if I'd been too cautious, I wouldn't have survived.

[He wonders now how his friends are doing without him. It's not like they needed him or anything. They were all way stronger. But he doesn't want them to worry about him either.]

It is true that both caution and boldness are necessary to success, lest recklessness or cowardice reign.

[That thoughtful look doesn't escape Edgeworth, but he doesn't press, assuming whatever is on the youth's mind to be a painful and personal matter not relevant to moving forward in the here and now.]
