Chapter 01 ~ Action/Video

[Action; city streets]

[Today, a certain man sporting golden hair can be seen wandering around the streets of Prospero. He may enter as many buildings as he leaves, but he never stays in one area for too long. He seems to be in search of something, or perhaps someone? Your various attempts to catch his attention seem to fail, unless of course, you actually bump into him. You'll get two red eyes staring at your person before he gives a simple laugh and walks off to his next destination. Do you continue to follow him, or...?]

[Video; night]

[The video feed switches on, and the first thing you may notice is that the room is... very over the top. So many fancy looking decorations and furniture that you'll wonder just how somebody could even set it all up, much less afford it all on their first day. That's a mystery that will have to be solved another day. Gilgamesh then turns the camera back towards himself, showing that awfully charming grin of his that some people may already be familiar with.]

So, tell me. How many of you mongrels are familiar with the story of the great King Gilgamesh and his loyal brother Enkidu?

Mongrels? It wouldn't hurt to be a little nicer.

[Oh, that gets a chuckle out of him. He'll lean in towards the device, letting the camera close in on his face. And then he'll smile. The most simple smile, yet something seems so wrong about it.]

Nicer? You're asking me to be nicer? Do you have any idea who I am? If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't be standing here today. I'd say that makes me pretty 'nice'.

Are you familiar with the history of Mesopotamia? ...No, no. Of course not. I wouldn't expect someone like you to know much about the origins of mankind.

There was a goddess who often sought after men, but every man she had ever been with died in mysterious ways. Of course, it only makes sense that someone like her would want a young and prosperous King such as myself. But knowing all about her, I rejected her. She got whiny and got another god to send down the Bull of Heaven to destroy my beautiful city of Uruk. So my brother Enkidu and I went out to kill him, thus saving all of my loyal mongrels and cementing my place as the first hero of history and the King of Heroes.

[And now he'll wait for her reaction with an all too smug grin on his face.]

So you're trying to tell me you're what, a million years old? Sounds like quite the adventure.

[Does he want to bullshit his age or not... decisions, decisions.]

Maybe not a million, but certainly well within the thousands. That is the gift of having two thirds of your blood being from the holy goddess Ninsun.

Ninsun was my mother. I would hope she wouldn't attempt to flirt with her own son.

No, the other goddess I spoke of was Ishtar. The headaches that woman gave me number in millions. Not only did she constantly harass me, attempt to destroy my city, she is also the cause of my best friend's death. The wretched goddess of whores.

[...Oops.]

Hey, if I don't know who you are, how should I know who your mom is?

[Casual shrug.]

I've already grieved enough for him in the past. At least all those gods seem to have died out. Perhaps the only good thing about this current... era.

[Hater gonna hate.

And not that he actually cares but maybe he'll fake being nicer for the hell of it.]

So, what's your story?

[Her turn to smile.]

My name is Syd. I'm a member of Space Patrol Delta, and my job is to protect the Earth from alien invaders.

[Have a completely stoic face before he cracks up laughing.]

Aliens from space? That's a good one. Next you'll tell me you're also some sort of international music idol or movie star.

[He spent ten years in the 'current' era. More than enough time for him to pick up on now-slightly-out-of-date pop culture.]

[Well actually she is, but she isn't even going to go there.]

It's no less believable than your being old enough to be a dinosaur.

Dinosaurs were before my time, woman. You would know that if you ever cracked open a history book. Although I'm sure they are filled with just as many lies as most religious texts.

[He would start on a blonde triad but the last time he did resulted in a 40 hour argument over how his hair is GOLDEN, not blonde.]

Yeah, whatever, Mister Dinosaur. [Syd is the most mature.]

The only way they'd be filled with lies is if you went in there and made them say you did everything important.

And just what would I gain by trying to claim I did all of those things? I'm only concerned about my own history. ...Although I'm certain had I been around, the world wouldn't have gone to waste like it has.

Huh. I wouldn't have thought you'd pass the chance to blow up your ego, though on second thought, it really doesn't need it. Either way, the world is fine. Running water doesn't mean it's gone to waste.

[Totally ignoring that ego bit and moving on to the more important issue at hand.]

You would think that, wouldn't you? But if you spent even a mere day in Uruk during it's prime, you would realize how sad this modern world is. So much war and hate among the people. Nearly everyone was united back then, under the rule of a worthy king.

So you're saying your country didn't have enemies? I guess not, if there was only one of you. But regular people have enemies, why shouldn't nations? Even if best friends fight, their friendships are made stronger for it. It's part of a healthy friendship. Why shouldn't alliances work the same way?

Of course not! Back then, the world was united as one. Everyone lived happily and worked together toward a common goal. They worked to keep the city in shape. To make their king's, and therefore their own lives better. Today's world is filled with nothing but those who wish to have what they feel they deserve, regardless if they actually do or not. A bunch of spoiled dogs fighting over scraps of meat. It's pathetic. [We'll forget to mention the fact that, you know, Gilgamesh was and still is self-serving and believes he deserves everything, or rather he believes he owns everything. Also the small fact that he kind of destroyed his own city. Herp derp.]

You can't really expect almost seven billion people to live together with no form of conflict, can you? People don't work that way. Yeah, some people are like that, but there are others who want to help people. [Like herself, for instance.]

Seven billion? Has humanity really fallen so low to allow THAT many people to live? I bet more than half of them are completely useless.

Helping people? What, do you mongrels actually have heroes among your ranks? I doubt they are anything compared to any of the heroic spirits I've faced in the past.

What's this allow business?

[She sighs.] You don't have to be Superman to be a hero.

Simple. Normally the Gods see fit to keep the population under control. It seems they've been slacking these days. Unless somebody went and killed them all off while I was gone. Selfish bastards.

[Because he would've really loved to give Ishtar what was totally coming to her for that whole killing his best friend thing.

And then he'll give the most ~~ugly~~ kingly snooty look.]

The only mongrels I'll accept as heroes are fellow kings and possibly their loyal knights.
