[Action; city streets]

[Today, a certain man sporting golden hair can be seen wandering around the streets of Prospero. He may enter as many buildings as he leaves, but he never stays in one area for too long. He seems to be in search of something, or perhaps someone? Your various attempts to catch his attention seem to fail, unless of course, you actually bump into him. You'll get two red eyes staring at your person before he gives a simple laugh and walks off to his next destination. Do you continue to follow him, or...?]

[The video feed switches on, and the first thing you may notice is that the room is... very over the top. So many fancy looking decorations and furniture that you'll wonder just how somebody could even set it all up, much less afford it all on their first day. That's a mystery that will have to be solved another day. Gilgamesh then turns the camera back towards himself, showing that awfully charming grin of his that some people may already be familiar with.]

So, tell me. How many of you mongrels are familiar with the story of the great King Gilgamesh and his loyal brother Enkidu?

Yes, this place seems to amuse itself by stripping us of our previous titles.

Mmn. A war for a certain object said to grant the possessor's one wish. Oh, what a pathetic war it was. It was fought between a mere seven people and their servants. Countless lives were lost, and in the end, the grail merely set half the city on fire and turned me into a mortal.

That seems more like a brawl than a war. The war I was called away from was spanning across the known galaxy.... but the battle here is just as necessary for the survival of humanity.

I said the same, but they insisted on calling it the 'War of the Magi' for some reason. Meh. I've never cared much for witches or warlocks in the first place.

I have never known them for long, my duty is to slay them in the service of the imperial truth.

A magus killer? Interesting. If memory serves, there was someone like that running around during the fourth Grail War. The irony is that he too was still a participant and partnered with a servant. Humans can be so heretical.

I am not a magus killer. I am simply a soldier.

Tell me of this... so called war.

To a man who has fought in a war on the galactic scale, there's nothing very noteworthy about that war, other than getting to fight with Alexander the Great and meeting a certain someone who also happens to have been drawn into this city. Care to take a guess as to who that may be?

I can't say I have any idea, honestly. There are quite a few people here, drawn by the need for champions to battle this darkness.

Ha. I suppose she's trying to keep a low profile, then. The Lancer I met seemed to be doing the same. I'll assume they've even taken up false names. How humorous.

...And darkness? Perhaps this pertains to what Lancer was being so secretive about earlier. He said something happens at night. Care to brief me on the situation?

Simpy put, at midnight, those coffins appear, and we're drawn to an odd structure where they wander, though sometimes they walk the streets as well. The primary point of battle is the business district.

Strangely, my normal method of killing doesn't work for all of them.

Really? Now that is interesting. I guess I'll have to investigate for myself later. And what would your normal method be? You look like the two-handed sword type. [Because nobody uses guns right Gil? Oh wait.]

I actually tend to use a pistol or other weapon in my right hand, with a blade in my left. It provides a wide array of combat options.

[Despite his distaste for those modern weapons that he saw as 'cheating', wielding two weapons of varying ranges did have an advantage. ...Not that he'd ever admit it.]

I cannot ever see myself resorting to ever using those devices. Perhaps they are more practical, but I consider them heresy. They doesn't allow you to feel your enemy. It takes away a certain level of satisfaction. I want to be on top and dominate them. Prove that it is I who conquered them, not some advanced weaponry.

I knew a man like you once. [ And Garviel kick ed his ass. ] His insistence on using only close combat weapons proved the undoing of many of his brothers.

I have had only one brother, and he fell due to the cruelty of the Gods. I have no need to worry about such things. If these creatures attack me, I will fight them alone. There's no need for me to have mongrels get in my way. They'll only slow me down.

If you engage the shadows alone you will undoubtedly die. Alone. Only in when you are fighting un groups are they manageable. It's just basic tactical doctrine.

I'm pretty sure that I won't die. Not that easily. I've already lived close to two hundred years.

And I 120, of constant war. What is your point? I have been here long enough to have the measure of these foes.

That's the difference between a king and a soldier. You're trained to do whatever your emperor demands, I on the other hand, have my own set of rules to go by. Regardless of how strong these enemies might be, I'd sooner die than let myself fight alongside these mongrels. The only man worthy of fighting by my side passed on long ago.

That level of pride is pointless. There is only victory, and defeat. A warrior's pride comes in fighting well, not in fighting alone.

My pride is knowing that I can beat all the challenges that stand before me with my own hands.

I can assure you that these creatures are not so easily dispatched.

I'll just have to see for myself, then. Nobody learns anything unless they actually experience it.

There are some lessons that can only be learned once.
