[The movie is pretty typical action fare. Normally, John would be riveted to the screen, but his mind keeps wandering. What would she do if he tried to hold her hand? Or maybe stretched and put his arm around her? Guys do that in romantic comedies all the time. Or is that too forward? No, the hand holding is probably safer. But this is a first date, so is even that too much? What would Dave do?
Nah, if he were that cool, she'd probably be holding his hand already. Forget it, just go for it. Worry about things later, that's always worked before. He reaches his hand out very tentatively, gets it almost to the armrest and... abort! abort! He hastily pulls it away. Yeah, he is the smoothest.]
*Kaoru's too busy trying to figure out what's going on and why the man with the gun cares so much about what happens to his family that he's going to go into the jungle and fight the people threatening them. Was that what people normally did? Would she do that for anyone?
Why was she entertaining the thought that she would?*
Tch.
*Oh, hey, John is acting strangely. She's going to tilt her head at him.* What are you doing?
[He is so very glad for the darkened theater hiding how very much he is blushing right now. He turns his attention back to the safety of the movie. Maybe he can get through the rest of this date without embarrassing himself further. yeah, no.]
It was sort of confusing. The man wanted to save his family more than he wanted to protect the city, but in the end he was able to save both. That kind of thing doesn't happen. Does it?

[His brain is just stumbling all over itself, so have some rambling.]
Not that you're not always pretty. You totally are! Just.... I like your smile... a lot....
I'm.... I'm gonna shut up now.

[In the interests of saying a few less stupid things in the near future, lets call in a distraction.]
Umm, the movie's gonna start soon.

Uh, yeah. Just give the tickets to him, and he'll tell us which theater it is.

*And so they get the completely vacated front row! There's probably even going to be a seat for the bird once everyone's in.*
John is such a dork....

You've just gotta have faith in yourself and keep trying even when everything seems like it's hopeless. If you do that, you can accomplish anything.
[Yeah, he really is this naive. And somehow he makes it work.]
