Has anyone seen a puppy? [ The mortification coming from the speaker's voice is palpable. He sounds tired and upset. ] We became...separated when I arrived here.

She's white, floppy ears, fluffy, about a month old. I think...she's a Great Pyrenees, but I can't confirm it since she's a stray.

Any information is appreciated.

I see. It's hard to say whether or not she would be here as well, in that case. I'm afraid this place is remarkably difficult like that.

This place... [ The natives were unhelpful in answering Abel's question. Perhaps this person might know.

This city is called Prospero, and it's somewhere in America. I'm afraid I can't tell you how or for what purpose you were brought here, because i don't know that myself. But you're certainly not the first and likely not the last to simply wake up here with no explanation.

[ Well, that explains the English in all the signage. However, it doesn't explain how Abel was kidnapped all the way from France. ] ...there isn't a way out, is there?

Yes and no. We're not confined to this city, but from what I've come to understand this world is not quite the one from which we came.

So, I haven't just hopped from one continent to another, I've been kidnapped into...another world. [ His voice holds a tone of disbelief. ]

I did warn you it gets unbelievable. I assure you it only gets more so as you go along.

In any case, I've not yet heard of anyone arriving here with anyone or anything other than what they had on them at the time.

[ As the alleged body vessel of a crime lord, and witness to humans launching fire from their hands, Abel supposes dimensional travel is a plausibility.

Every night precisely at midnight, for one hour this city distorts in ways I can't quite describe adequately. The native residents are unaware of it and more often than not left unaffected. In addition to the changes in scenery, a variety of monsters only really known as Shadows tends to gather at that time and that time alone--otherwise, this city is generally as normal as it looks at this moment.

[ So I'm stuck in a horror film. ] ...we have to fight these Shadows don't we?

'Have to', no. No one's forcing us to do anything, as far as we've seen. But if you have the ability, we would appreciate the help.

[ Abel certainly has the ability, but does he want to? ] What do you mean by 'ability'? Because I'm a martial artist, but I'm not sure I have time to waste in this place, though it looks like I don't have a choice.

Just as I said. If you have the ability to fight, you are welcome to join us if you so choose. It's up to you, I've hardly any right to force anyone into such a thing.

...Although as far as time goes, I can't help but think that's really all most of us have here.

[ If I fight, I might get the answers I want from this place.

Glad to hear it. We're hardly all that organized, but the Shadows tend to get stronger around the full moon--it takes a concentrated effort from many of us to defeat them at that point. It's troublesome, but we've managed so far.

Wait, these shadows are...monsters that get stronger depending on the phase of the moon? [ Where am I? ]

From what little we know, that does seem to be the case.

I've heard of some animals doing that, but this is...strange.

It shouldn't be too hard, though. Beat up a couple of monsters at night, rest by day. I've been in worse situations.

Strange is likely the only adequate word to describe it.

And no one has found an exit yet? [ If we got in, there has to be an exit. ]

As I said, we're not confined to this city. I know at least one person has left the country entirely, but obviously he didn't find anything like an exit. I do not know if there is one at all, though logic dictates there must be.

I'm sorry, I meant to ask if there's an exit that will return us where we're from.
