While as a flutist I can sympathize with your sentiment, would it not be advisable to prioritize equipment over costly tools of leisure?

You probably shouldn't have made a commitment that you weren't already prepared to follow through on as is, but there is something to be said for the fact that you intend to be true to it regardless.

Given the short notice, you may wish to look over a list of exemptions from child labor laws for ideas.

Indeed. In most places, by default employers cannot legally hire minors. The theory is that children are too easily exploited; prior to child labor laws, children were often put to work in sweatshops and had no power to change this. However, child labor laws also typically have lists of exemptions -- jobs where people younger than normal are allowed to be hired, with permissible ages given. By my understanding, Prospero's list in particular is more lenient than most.

The alternative would be to sue for emancipation in order to attain majority earlier; however, as under the circumstances you lack a legal guardian to bring such a suit against, that would be a complicated proposition to say the least.

While that may prove effective, it may also prove time-consuming unless you first narrow your search to those businesses that are less likely to turn you away.

So maybe something like retail then? I'd probably do really well in a store that sold DVDs. There's no way anyone knows more about movies than I do.

If they shared your passion but were thrice your age, they would probably know more. That being said, few aspire to remain in retail jobs for very long and such a job doesn't seem unduly strenuous, so perhaps that is an idea worth pursuing.
